Under the direction of the Blood Center Operations Manager, the Phlebotomist / Biologics Technician is responsible for providing a superior donor experience while performing donor phlebotomies using aseptic techniques in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), regulatory agencies, and accreditation bodies for the collection, manufacturing, and distribution of blood and blood products. This also includes determining donor suitability while following established protocols, performing data entry associated with component production, labeling, storage and shipping while ensuring accurate and completing manufacturing records.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Complies with safety procedures, personnel practices, and confidentiality policies to adhere to safety guidelines to assure compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrates understanding of established Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), to ensure blood products meet safety, purity, and potency requirements
  • Participates in mandatory training, retraining, staff meetings, continuing education, and cGMP training; completes competency testing on time as required
  • Prepares and submits quality control samples for testing
  • Appropriately operates and maintains equipment used in apheresis blood collection in an effort to minimize cost of equipment maintenance and repair; performs quality control checks on equipment
  • Contributes to organizational mission via professionalism in customer service interactions and accuracy of work
  • Promotes teamwork and communication; fosters a team environment to facilitate effective management of the donation process as well as the manufacturing and distribution of blood and blood products
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds


Required Education, Skills & Experience:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy Certification and/or previous related experience preferred
  • Customer service experience
  • CPR or willingness to obtain
  • History of excellent customer service skills; ability to organize and prioritize; basic computer skills
  • Record of dependability, punctuality and cooperation


Physical Requirements 

Required to regularly stand, use hands, reach with arm, and talk and hear. Frequently required to sit, stoop, crouch, and kneel. Must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Environmental Requirements 

Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
