Work Schedule : Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., some evening and weekend work can occur.

The Health Communications Coordinator is an exempt professional position in the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) that provides clear, constant, and timely communication to improve the health of Sedgwick County residents.
To accomplish this, the position credits, edits, updates and distributes of communications materials. This includes updating the SCHD website, assisting with communications plans, working with County Strategic Communications on social media, and other duties as assigned.
The position participates in community collaborations that support the work of the department as needed. The position ensures communications materials are effective, equitable, and understandable to reach all communities in Sedgwick County.
This is an Activation Level 1 position, which will provide support during public health emergencies.
Coordinate the creation and distribution of communications materials for SCHD
- Serve as a point of contact between SCHD and County Strategic Communications
- Develop content, write and edit communications materials
- Work with SCHD staff, County Strategic Communications staff, Print Shop, and vendors to coordinate the creation of signage, flyers, brochures, ads, and other communications materials
- Assist County social media coordinator by responding to resident queries on social media posts
- Work with SCHD staff to update SCHD fact sheets
- Send documents for translation into languages other than English
- Develop, prepare, and edit the SCHD Annual Report
- Ensure communications materials follow the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS)
Manage the SCHD website
- Serve as a point of contact for the SCHD website
- Work with County webmaster, supervisor, and SCHD staff to update the SCHD website in accordance with procedure, website standards, and SCHD and community needs
- Review website pages quarterly or more frequently if changes occur
Assist in creating and implementing communications plans
- Schedule annual planning meetings with program managers and division directors to draft plans
- Work with supervisor and Health Communications team to execute plan projects throughout the year
- Track progress and ensure timely completion of plan projects
Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in English, public health, school and community health education, communication, management, or related field.
Degree may be substituted for relevant work experience, with one year of work experience substituting for one year of education.
One year of work experience communicating with the public through writing in marketing, communications or other work. One year of work experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
One year of project management work experience. One year of customer service experience. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
Must complete courses IS 100 and 700 within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications : Three years of experience in a public or nonprofit organization; experience in short and long-term project coordination, and / or grant writing.
Three years of work experience communicating with the public through writing in marketing, communications or other work.
Knowledge of performance outcomes and outcome measurement systems. Broad knowledge base of community programs and agencies and experience working with community agencies.
Work experience in a public health agency, hospital or other medical-related setting. Work experience with risk communications or public health emergency preparedness.
Master’s degree in English, public health, school and community health education, communication, management, or related field.
