About Sedona Symphony
The Sedona Symphony is dedicated to enriching the quality of life in our Northern Arizona community through the power of live orchestral music that educates, entertains, and inspires. Having evolved rapidly over the past year, rebranding from the Verde Valley Sinfonietta to the Sedona Symphony, we concluded our first highly successful season under the leadership of our new and exciting Artistic Director, Janna Hymes. We are now gearing up for an exhilarating 20th-anniversary season and seeking two new dedicated trustees who are eager to actively engage in our mission.
We are seeking individuals who are:
- Advocates for orchestral music locally, statewide, and nationally.
- Committed to excellence in the arts.
- Experienced and interested in governance issues of nonprofits.
- Experienced and interested in volunteering as "unpaid staff" for a nonprofit organization.
- Experienced and comfortable with participation as part of a team.
- Representative of the ethnic and cultural diversity of the community.
- Well-placed in the community to garner support for the organization
Individuals with the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Proven experience in legal, financial, fundraising, or grant writing, including roles that involved major donors, legacies, and corporate sponsors.
As a Trustee of the Sedona Symphony, you will be expected to:
- Be committed to orchestral music in Sedona and the goals of the Symphony.
- Work towards achieving and overseeing the quality growth and stability of the Symphony.
- Participate in discussions and voting on matters determining the direction and operation of the Symphony.
- Contribute to setting and achieving the Symphony’s fundraising goals and objectives.
- Support the Symphony at a leadership giving level that is personally significant.
- Utilize personal and business networks to support the organization within the community.
- Attend concerts and fundraising events of the Symphony.
- Become knowledgeable about the history, mission, events, and programs of the Symphony.
- Familiarize yourself with the Symphony's governance policies and by-laws.
- Attend all Board meetings, actively participate, and review materials sent with agendas.
- Serve on and actively participate in at least one committee of the Board.
- Notify the Board secretary or committee chair in case of impending absence from a meeting.
- Participate in scheduled Board retreats.
- Maintain confidentiality on sensitive and privileged information.
- Demonstrate respect and civility towards Board members and staff.
- Support final decisions of the Board without personal bias.
- Declare and avoid voting on matters representing a conflict of interest.
- Demonstrate loyalty to and advocacy for the interests of the Symphony, even when serving on other boards.
- Represent the interests of the orchestra as a whole, facilitating communication between the orchestra and the Board.
