VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR, McHenry County

The Volunteer Coordinator recruits and refers volunteers who are 55 and older throughout McHenry County for placement in a variety of community volunteer positions at local non-profit organizations. This is a full-time position with benefits.

REPORTS TO: Director of Community Services

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruit volunteers via press releases, recruitment websites, and newspapers, distribute fliers and give presentations to local agencies and organizations.

Process recruited volunteers over 55 years of age according to guidelines established by AmeriCorps Seniors and Illinois Department on Aging Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP.) Oversee the volunteer’s completion of the application form, providing personal references, and submitting to a police background check. Face-to-face interview with the volunteer and place volunteer in an appropriate volunteer station according to interest and compatibility.

Maintain files on senior volunteers, collect volunteer timesheets, verify time worked, report service hours.

Submit monthly and quarterly reports to the Director of Community Services.

Recognize senior volunteers involved with the program through holiday/birthday cards and through the annual Volunteer Recognition event.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a high school degree or equivalent. College courses or work in social services is preferred. Computer skills and experience using excel and word processing programs required. Prior experience working with senior population beneficial.

The individual must have the ability to organize, maintain, and increase the program. A good working relationship with seniors, volunteers and outside organizations and excellent communication skills needed.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
