Development and Communication Manager

The Development and Communication Manager is a permanent full-time position whose responsibilities are to oversee the Sequim food Bank’s fund development and communication programs including grant proposals, fundraising, and community engagement. This position supports the organization’s funding and community engagement plans through a combination of written, in-person, and multimedia communications. The Development and Communication Manager reports to the executive director and works closely with other staff and select committee members. The position requires a highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented individual eager to contribute and excel in a dynamic work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing

  • Work closely with staff in identifying program funding needs, research and identify potential grant funding sources, write, and submit grant requests
  • Monitor and track funded grants and contracts; assist in necessary reporting
  • Research and identify private foundation and business sponsorship funding; work with executive director on proposals, in-person and written
  • Plan, implement, and oversee planned giving program

Fund Development

  • Lead the organization’s fundraising efforts, with significant support from the executive director
  • Support non-Sequim Food Bank hosted fundraising events
  • Work closely with Executive Director in current and prospective donor outreach
  • Assist and support future capital project funding team
  • Collaborate with office administrator to maintain donor database and paper records of contributors and grants

Communications

  • Oversee community engagement activities
  • Create and distribute regular newsletters, communications, and ensure timely donor acknowledgements are made
  • Create and distribute fundraising, promotional, and informational documents
  • Monitor and update social media and website content

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission of the Sequim Food Bank and nutrition security on the Olympic Peninsula
  • Experience in researching, writing, and monitoring private and government grants and contracts
  • Experience in donor development and community relationship-building, direct public relations, or related field
  • Experience in creating, executing, and monitoring communication and marketing plans
  • Demonstrate skills in effectively planning, organizing and implementing fundraising events and engaging with donors and potential donors
  • Demonstrate skills in project management and logistics coordination
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to engage diplomatically, compellingly, and effectively while representing the Sequim Food Bank
  • Proficient with computer operations in a Windows environment and Microsoft Word, and experience with managing fundraising database software
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work on non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver’s license, and willingness to use a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement at federal rate) for local site visits
  • Experience in independently managing multiple tasks and deadlines

Requirements

The working environment of the Development and Communication Manager is primarily in a professional office setting; however, this could include some remote work. A business laptop will be provided. The Development and Communication Manager is expected to travel to off-site locations to attend meetings and community engagement events. Office duties are often sedentary and require the ability to use a keyboard, complete written documents, operate general office equipment, and be able to lift 15-20lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
