The Family Economic Opportunity (FEO) area works to address and help families overcome the root causes of intergenerational cycles of poverty. A new department within Share Our Strength, FEO is in a building phase. Over the next five years, we will design a strategy, recruit a team, and engage stakeholders are all levels to amplify effective solutions that apply a racial economic equity lens to ensure access to credits, benefits, and supports for all eligible families. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Family Economic Opportunity, the Program Manager will support Share Our Strength and its mission to end childhood hunger and poverty in America by providing effective program management, field leadership, and collaboration for a portfolio of FEO programs.
The ideal candidate will understand economic and structural inequities and be knowledgeable about anti-hunger and anti-poverty solutions with skills in program design, project and process management, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders at local, state, and national levels and across sectors. Preference will be given to those candidates with either lived experience or work experience in communities struggling with food insecurity.
This position is preferably based in Washington, DC, but could be fully remote for the right candidate. Range for offers: $65,000-$70,000.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Co-design programmatic and policy solutions, helping to define short- to long-term FEO program outcomes and implementation goals.
- Manage day-to-day implementation of program activities, such as building relationships with stakeholders, developing program materials, recruiting and selecting cohorts; organizing and leading cohort convenings; and managing in-program grantmaking.
- Manage FEO research projects, working in collaboration with our Center on Best Practice’s team focused on improving economic opportunities for low-income and low-wealth families
- Manage portfolio and project workflows in Asana; coordinate dependencies with other FEO projects and program areas.
- Manage program budgets, working with supervisor, Finance, and Development teams to track expenses and make recommendations on funding distribution and reallocation as needed.
- Help establish and deepen partnerships with national organizations and associations that share a common mission to reduce child hunger, and identify and address the root causes of food insecurity among children and families in communities that have been chronically underfunded, with a focus on communities of color.
- Lead and coordinate the execution of Memoranda of Understanding and partnership contracts.
- Serve as point person and content expert for the FEO program portfolio to bring key trends to light and identify project or collaboration opportunities for other Share Our Strength teams.
- Work with Communications and Development teams on reporting on impact to internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent Share Our Strength at conferences, forums, convenings, coalition meetings, and similar events.
- Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional and/or lived experience within rural communities, chronically underfunded communities, and/or areas of persistent poverty.
- 3 – 5 years of experience and working knowledge of current issues, concepts, and practices related to economic security policies and programs, child and family programs, economic or community development, human services, immigrant integration, and/or workforce development.
- Experience coordinating or managing projects, including establishing timelines, managing resources, conducting timely follow-up, using effective communication methods, meeting deadline and budget goals, and working with peers in a team environment.
- Ability to navigate and interpret basic census information and statistical data sets.
- Strong research, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Proven ability to excel working independently and as part of a (permanently virtual and in-person) team environment.
- Credible skill in clear, persuasive, and dynamic communication with various stakeholders.
- Successful track record of achieving results through persuasion and collaboration.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain positive, mutually beneficial relationships, internally and externally.
- Successful track record managing multiple complex projects simultaneously and demonstrated ability to initiate, organize, prioritize, and work independently.
- Accustomed to and skilled in working in a team culture focused on accountability, achieving goals, collaboration, and innovation.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office suite.
- Demonstrated interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
