Position Summary
Responsible for coordinating all media relations; Oversees communications with all forms of media outlets and assists in the development of communication materials relative to court initiatives and programs. Also creates internal and external communications in support of court operations.
Pay Grade: 58
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
1. Five (4) years of experience in an administrative field within a major business environment; AND
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Journalism or other closely related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related training and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Coordinates and responds to all media requests on behalf of the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County
2. Advises Judge and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on communication and outreach strategies for initiatives and projects.
3. Writes and manages distribution of press releases and statements for local media outlets.
4. Assists in the preparation of briefings, written reports, position papers, speech notes, summaries and presentations for the Judge and/or for members of the SLT.
5. Directs the content of the JC internet and internet sites, including developing and updating material from the Judge and relative to JC initiatives.
6. Oversees compliance with the Tennessee Open Meetings Act (“Sunshine Act”) as well as the Tennessee Open Records Act, coordinating responses to records requests.
7. Maintains a database of matters of interest from local, regional, and national media that highlight initiatives related to family court, child welfare, youth justice or that speak to issues of concern for the JC.
8. Drafts JC monthly newsletter, Judge’s blog, and social media strategy and posts.
9. Assists in the organization of events and ceremonies sponsored by the JC.
10. Proactively seeks opportunities for exposure for the JC’s initiatives and projects.
11. Performs duties as assigned by the Judge, DCAO, and CAO
KSA's
1. Ability to develop master work plans and objectives, identify problems, and make/recommend changes as required.
2. Ability to deal effectively with executives, Elected Officials and other departments with Shelby County Government.
3. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively orally and in writing.
4. Skill in applying analytical and problem-solving methods. Thorough knowledge and skill to analyze facts, identify problems, make conclusions and recommend appropriate action.
