What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator II position at Shelby County?
The Equipment Operator II is a position within the Environmental Services Department that involves the operation of heavy construction equipment, including but not limited to, bulldozer, track loader, motor grader, wheel tractor-scraper, compactor, articulated haul truck, dump truck, front-end loader, and/or trackhoe/excavator in the performance of construction and maintenance of the County's landfill. This position must also be able to operate equipment such as a skid steer, tractor with bush hog, UTV, rubber tire loader, and garbage truck.
- Operates equipment.
- Operates light and heavy trucks.
- Performs maintenance on equipment by checking oil and transmission fluid; changing oil and replacing oil filters on machines; greasing machines; changing blades on bush hogs.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of various types of heavy equipment.
- One year of on the job work experience operating multiple types of equipment.
- Class B Commercial Driver's License
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is mostly performed outdoors and subject to extreme weather conditions, exposure to fumes from exhaust on equipment, exposure to high noise levels and characteristics typical of a solid waste landfill.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is generally heavy in nature involving sitting, standing, bending, carrying, walking, and lifting, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds. Exposure to extreme vibration during operation of equipment.
EXAMINATIONS: No written or performance examination will be required for this position. Applicants are screened and certified based on an evaluation of their education, training, experience and other requirements as outlined in this Position Announcement and denoted on their Job Application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire.
