Job Description
The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House (SMJ) is seeking a dynamic Family & Youth Education Coordinator to develop and execute educational programs and events geared toward Family and Pre-K through 12 audiences. The Family & Youth Education Coordinator will have the opportunity to produce and manage engaging and creative educational programming for families, teachers and students of all ages and abilities, with the goal to grow Museum field trips and program participation. They will also ensure that the stories of Eugene and Lane County are reflected and shared in those programs. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, is highly organized, and has exceptional follow through, interpersonal skills, and flexibility.
This position reports to the Executive Director and will work closely with the Museum’s curatorial staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Oversee and implement Museum’s pre-K-12 programs, tours, activities, remote lessons/tours, and volunteer/docent coordination.
● Act as outreach coordinator to schools and homeschool families and schedule and host school field trips and related activities.
● Manage Museum Family programs such as summer camps, Victorian Family Holidays Craft Day, and other public programs.
● Work with the Exhibit Committee to create a calendar of robust and engaging programs and events that reflect current exhibit materials.
● Collaborate with the Executive Director to advertise programs, including the creation of press releases, posters, and promotional images, and social media strategies and necessary web content.
● Work with the Executive Director to ensure programs are within budgetary requirements.
● Collect data on program outcomes and attendance and analyze results.
● Strengthen the Museum's programming for youth through curriculum development, the creation of a youth advisory committee, and targeted outreach.
Position Qualifications:
● Experience in the field of education and program development is preferred.
● Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
● Detail-oriented with good project management skills.
● Proficient in Google Suite, Square, WordPress and experience with graphic design is a plus.
● A creative mindset and enthusiasm for collaboration. Knowledge of local culture, history, and community groups is a plus, as well as being multilingual.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements: This is a part time 20-hour per week, non-exempt position, and requires a flexible schedule for regular business hours, as well as other hours to support and attend Museum programs and special events that may occur on evenings or weekends. Ability to manage stairs and occasional lifting of items 20 lbs and over required.
