What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time: Gate Officer position at Shipyard POA?
Under the supervision of Patrol Officer I or the Director of Safety & Security, the Gate Officer is responsible for protecting life and property within the Shipyard community. This employee is expected and required to act in accordance with laws (federal, state, or local), as well as the SPOA Covenants and By-Laws. This employee works in concert with a security team under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security. The primary responsibility will be to ensure that all owners and guests are greeted upon entry to the property. This employee will support the security team in their pursuit of maintaining property values while ensuring safety and covenant compliance throughout the property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Supports the rest of the security department team in their efforts to uphold the POA Covenants, By-Laws, Access Policy, and patrol/gate orders.
· Must display a demeanor that promotes exemplary customer service.
· Follows the vision and mission for the security department team, and ensures comprehension and actions in accordance with same.
· Identifies passes and decals to ensure authorized access into entry points.
· Works in conjunction with other gate officers and the dispatcher on an assigned shift to ensure that information is passed along effectively and efficiently.
· Follows established policies related to emergency planning, wildlife control, and traffic control.
· Maintains necessary equipment for the security department as directed by Patrol Officer I or the Director of Safety & Security.
· Works with owners, guests, and others to resolve issues/concerns, and confers with supervisor on duty (or other manager) when necessary.
· Maintains a gate log of daily ongoing activities.
· Performs all other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES:
· Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to use sound judgment and discretion while resolving conflict.
· Good communication skills, including the ability to give clear and concise information (includes directions, rules, contact information).
· Ability to pass a rigorous background check.
· Ability to work well in emergency situations, to include weather-related events.
· Thorough knowledge of the Shipyard Access Policy, and familiar with appearance of all Shipyard passes and decals.
· Ability to speak in public and participate in training classes.
· Must be proficient in use of current computer systems, i.e. Microsoft Office.
· Professional appearance is mandatory and must wear company-issued uniform.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
· The Gate Officer must have a high school diploma or GED.
· Current SLED level I (or other as required) certification is required. If you do not have we will provide the training for a SLED certification.
· Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local laws.
· Must complete a 90-day probationary period as outlined in the SPOA Employee Manual, and exhibit the ability to meet any goals/objectives set by the Director of Safety & Security.

Schedule - Set Schedule
- Every other Weekend Off
- Day Shift: 6:30am - 7:00pm
- Night Shift: 6:30pm - 7:00am
