This position is located at Shy Bird - South Boston. Shy Bird is looking to hire a dynamic management team for our second location opening soon in South Boston! Our bustling Kendall Square location has been serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner since 2018, with craveable, affordable food that celebrates the familiar while conveying genuine culinary ambition and passion. Conveniently located on the Red Line between Andrew and Broadway Station, the new Shy Bird location will be joining the Iron Works development, an exciting new destination in South Boston that is bringing residential and commercial spaces into one incredible community.
Shy Bird is seeking a Sous Chef to join the culinary and operations team. And currently, we’re offering a $1,500 Signing Bonus!
Purpose of Position:
The Sous Chef role, like Shy Bird, is multi-faceted and dynamic. By day, you could be supporting the kitchen team with guests picking up a fried chicken and egg for breakfast or groups enjoying salads grain bowls. You will bring to life our culinary standards, health & sanitation standards, takeout operations and elements of catering.
The description below is for a Sous Chef, but everyone works side-by-side at Shy Bird. We believe in cross-training for all positions. Chefs run food and bus tables. Service team does dishes. Bartenders seat guests and stock plates. We all run chicken.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute a weekly schedule for back of house staff
- Oversee training and onboarding for new back of house team members
- Support continuing education and development for the Shy Bird Team
- Seek to serve craveable Chef food, every day
- Comprehensive knowledge of all kitchen spaces and daily prep
- Comprehensive knowledge of all menu items and diligence with quality control
- Participation and idea generation with all menu changes, occurring seasonally
- Connectivity with General Manager on all operations
- Work with team to standardize and maintain recipes for all items
- Maintain order guides and order accurately and efficiently
- Contribute to Shy Bird brand expression, digitally through social media and other platforms

Compensation
- $60,000-$70,000/year, commensurate with experience
- $1,500 Signing Bonus!
