As a Systems Safety Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be working closely with design partners, developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new system safety products and processes through the product lifecycle Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. Must-haves: Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams Preferred: Experience with, or knowledge of System Safety Engineering analysis and products, including but not limited to fault tree analysis, hazard analysis, computer based control system (CBCS) analysis, channelization analysis, must work and must not work function analysis, etc. Experience with developing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and reliability predictions Experience with presenting technical content and communicating effectively to external customers. Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles Ability to work with minimal information or direction to formulate proposed plans for resolving safety related design/requirement solutions. Ability to administer baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures Experience with, or knowledge of avionics hardware and software for space applications, including the related system/mission hazards. Experience with, or knowledge of software/hardware integration, including avionics or electrical distribution systems, Fault Detection Isolation and Response approaches, and hazardous commanding. Experience with fault tree analysis tools, e.g. CAFTA or SAPHIRE Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, e.g., JIRA. Background in the Aerospace/Defense industries The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.
