Summary:
As an IT senior management member, the Director of User and Media Services participates in strategic planning for the IT department, and plans, budgets and manages all Skidmore-owned desktop and laptop computers, tablets, and printers used by the College's constituents as well as the audio-visual technology for the campus. This position provides leadership, direction, and vision to ensure the College's constituents have the necessary personal and classroom technologies necessary to achieve their pedagogical, academic, administrative, and/or event goals. Leadership of the Media Services function entails oversight of all AV enhanced teaching and public gathering spaces, along with responsibility for the scheduling and support for high profile meetings and events.
The Director is also responsible for overall project management of initiatives related to improving the College's IT, and serves as a department and college liaison to various internal and external. The Director of User and Media Services directs and supervises the Help Desk, desktop support technicians, media services technicians, and student assistants, in support of the following: install/set up, configure, maintain, repair, and upgrade Skidmore-owned computing devices and printers campus-wide; support instructional classroom innovation and assist with effective technology usage; and track and address departmental and individual user needs. In directing and supervising these staff, the Director ensures they recommend technologies that best help the College achieve its strategic goals while balancing available technical and financial resources.
Occasionally, the Director of User and Media Services provides IT user and media support services (including performing any of the team members' functions).
It also has a responsibility to respond to communications and requests related to general IT issues and needs that arise outside of normal work hours. This position routinely requires work outside of normal work hours, especially when system upgrades, changes or outages are underway.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in IT or related field from an accredited institution is required. Advanced degree preferred. Certification in ITIL or similar IT service related certification desired.
- Knowledge of desktop hardware and software required
- Familiarity with Audio Visual hardware and software required (ex: Extron, Crestron and ClearOne)
- Five (5) years of experience in IT required
- Two (2) years of formal management/leadership experience required
- Demonstrated initiative, and flexibility
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
- Experience in providing excellent customer service
- Experience providing data reporting and KPI’s measuring performance
- Knowledge of incident response desired
- Experience managing service level agreements as a vendor or client
- Knowledge of user services, desktop support and media services industry standards and practices.
- Experience with ticketing systems
- Experience with Asset Management systems
- Ability to manage a large team across multiple shifts
Pay Range: $100,000 - $120,000 commensurate with experience
