What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scribe - part time (float) position at SLHV-St. Louis Heart and Vascular?
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the scribe is to assist a physician with the medical documentation of a patient's office visit within the electronic medical record system (EMR). In addition, scribes assist physicians in reviewing a patient's test results, responding to messages or questions from a patient or another physician, and in other ways as directed by the physician. Otherwise, scribes work with other SLHV employees in a cooperative fashion in order to provide the highest quality medical care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
- Assist the physician with medical documentation of a patient's office visit, according to the physician's preferences.
- Assist the physician in completing all individual sections of documentation of an office visit.
- Send letters summarizing the office visit to the appropriate physician, if applicable.
- Assist the physician in reviewing his desktop.
- Assist the physician in responding to phone notes, nurse notes, appends, flags, and any other messages from patients, patients' families, other physicians, or SLHV employees.
- Review messages to the physician on daily basis and inform the physician of any urgent messages, even if the physician cannot respond at that moment.
- Assist the physician in reviewing test results and responding to them as necessary.
- Be aware and knowledgeable about the skills and responsibilities of other SLHV employees.
- Understand which groups of fellow employees (for example, Patient Services Representatives vs Nurses) and which individuals, if applicable (for example, the infusion nurses for calls, questions about infusions), have which responsibilities and work as a team with all other SLHV employees in order to provide the most efficient care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must be able to type 65 wpm. This position requires the incumbent to travel to 6 clinics at SLHV. Must be able to work full day on Fridays in addition to be able to pick up shifts on Wednesday morning or afternoons and Monday afternoons.
