The Senior System Engineer is a Level-III Technical Staff member assigned to the Information Technology Systems Engineering Team. This person is an accomplished leader with eight plus years System Engineering Senior System Engineer experience in IT related system services, projects and operations. The is primarily responsible for providing expert level system support services, consultation and recommendations relating to system support services, IT Strategic Planning and health care technology initiatives for St. Luke’s Health Network. This includes but is not limited to, problem resolution technology research and development; evaluation and implementation of new system platforms; capacity planning; financial analysis; and leading major system deployments. The Senior System Engineer is required to work independently as well as together in a team environment. He/She must maintain strong computer industry technical knowledge with high competence in hardware platforms and related system support functions. He/She works closely with IT department and organizational leadership, IT Engineering teams, Solutions Architects and Technology vendors on strategy, planning, design, development and deployment. The Senior System Engineer will actively participate in the PMO process, planning and spearheading major technology implementations. This requires upkeep of PMO project documentation, change management and coordination of system related "In-Service" training programs for peer support groups and departments as it relates to usage and/or required support services of St. Luke's hospital, business and administrative information systems. In this capacity, the Senior System Engineer is expected to coordinate with Customer Departments, Project, Architects, Engineering and Operational Support Teams to transition from a project state to an operational state. He/she is responsible for providing transitional support, maintenance documentation as well as guidance to departments, junior level engineers, analysts and technicians responsible for performing operational maintenance functions. Due to the 24x7 nature of a health care organization, the Senior System Engineer is expected to maintain a reasonable level of availability during non-business hours. He/She will be required to rotate periodically with Incident Management 24x7 Hospital On Call support team. He/she should also anticipate that support hours may be adjusted as required for major system events, operational and disaster recovery situations and/or project implementations. In addition, the System Engineer will participate in an On Call Support rotation as part of the Incident Management Program of critical systems during non-business hours. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides Expert level consultation/recommendations to IT department and organizational leadership on IT Strategic planning. Conducts detailed analysis, defining and documenting technology requirements for system infrastructure design, planning, funding and implementation. Actively participates on Technical Teams, working closely with Engineering Peers, Solutions Architects and Technology Vendors on strategy, planning, design, development and deployment. Investigates various technologies, engages with key Vendors and partners to negotiate solutions and options for appropriate product pricing. Leads/Directs internal and external teams involved in IT Projects, development, systems integration and associated operational support services. Oversees/coordinates system hardware/software refresh plans and upgrades. Provides integration services across varying technology platforms conducting appropriate research, testing and development of associated project related integration requirements. Performs expert level diagnostic assessment and resolution of major system related maladies. Produces procedural documentation and enhancements for System Engineering Staff for Operational and Disaster Recovery functions. Researches current and near term technology to understand where SLHN needs to head towards in technologies and develop this into ever evolving enterprise system standards. Maintains extensive knowledge of standard hospital systems and software. Rotates periodically with Incident Management 24x7x365 hospital On Call support team. Functions as an integral part of the Information Technology Department staff. Maintains current knowledge of technology by attending appropriate continuing education training, seminars and reading related periodicals. PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: Sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 4 hours at a time; standing for up to 7 hours per day, 4 hours at a time; walking for up to 2 hours a day, 1 hour at a time. Requires crouching, kneeling, and lifting of objects weighing up to 60 pounds, pushing objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Requires hand and finger dexterity to perform repairs of small equipment and to use computer equipment. Seeing as it relates to general, near, color, and peripheral vision. Hearing as it relates to normal and telephone conversations. EDUCATION: Bachelor or Associates degree in Information Technology (or related field) or equivalent work experience is required. Azure / Microsoft Solutions Associate (MCSA) and/or certification in EMC/NetApp storage, VMware, Citrix, Cisco UCS, Unix/Linux, or other core technologies may be required. Military Vocational Training and Certifications in Technology TRAINING and EXPERIENCE: Eight plus years experience with personal computers, local area networks, Client Server systems. Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2016/2019, Azure, O365, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Active Directory, Citrix XenApp, Unix/Linux/AIX, VMWare ESX, Cisco UCS.
