Position Summary:
Smalley and Company, a specialty distributor of waterproofing, sealants, coatings and building envelope products to commercial construction projects, seeks a Business Development Professional. The Building Envelope Specialist (BES) role is a technical sales position that takes a targeted approach to securing product sales on commercial projects. The BES provides demand creation through the sourcing of commercial construction project specifications and serves as a technical resource for engineers, architects, and general contractors. Product training and professional communications to account representatives and sales management are also key responsibilities.
The BES role was created to fulfill Smalley's mission to be the vital link in the construction supply chain, providing superior project focus and technical expertise to our customers.
Ideal Candidate: Requires extensive experience in commercial construction processes and commercial building products knowledge. Interaction with diverse stakeholders including engineering, construction and architectural professionals is required. This position warrants a natural outgoing and engaging personality and the ability to deliver technical product and systems information effectively in the office and on the jobsite.
Position Details: Building Envelope Specialist - Technical Sales
Salary: $100,000 - $120,000
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Office Location: May elect from either Colorado locations

Travel: Approximately 25%, generally Utah & Colorado
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist sales team in gaining target project awards by providing unique and tailored services to "Key Influencers".
- Create demand for new products or existing product lines with growth potential.
- Product Training: Lead the Company's training program for building envelopes and related scopes of work.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or applicable Construction or Business Development majors including five (5) years' working experience or eight (8) years' working experience without an accredited degree.
- The BES position requires waterproofing knowledge and experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Professional, effective in making presentations to individuals/groups.
- Superior analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills.
- Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret construction specifications and blueprints a plus.
WORK CONDITIONS
- General office environment with standard office tools.
- Visit customers and job sites; may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather.
- Noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
- Must properly wear Personal Property Equipment (PPE) to perform certain tasks.
- Physical demands:
- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Often asked to go vertically up a wall on sky climbers or scaffolding to perform various tests or inspections; must be able to climb heights up to 30 feet high
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
