What are the responsibilities and job description for the Orthodontic Assistant position at Smilebliss Orthodontics?
Summary of Position: This position is to provide outstanding patient care while assisting the doctor with the treatment of orthodontic patients. The orthodontic Smile Expert prepares materials and instruments/equipment for the doctor, provides patient treatment as prescribed by the doctor and assists in the management of the patient clinical records.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Always promote orthodontist and practice.
2. Display a pleasant and professional appearance and personality.
3. Monitor arrival of expected patients. Greet patients and/or parent in waiting area and escort to treatment area.
4. Always treat patients with genuine care, concern and do not leave patient unattended for any length of time.
5. Review patient's status and perform any permissible treatment to prepare the patient prior to the arrival of the orthodontist.
6. Perform high-quality clinical procedures as licensure allows and as assigned by doctor including taking impressions, x-rays, bonding, etc.
7. Anticipate next steps and needs of the orthodontist for the procedure to be performed on the patient.
8. Accurately complete all necessary and appropriate clinical charting of the patient's status, visit, hygiene, and next visit.
9. Complete procedure(s) and continuously monitor patient flow. Make clinical adjustments with doctor approval to keep patient flow moving and the day running on schedule.
10. Discuss any pertinent information with the patient and/or parent at the end of the visit regarding progress, hygiene, next visit, etc.
11. Communicate instructions to patients clearly and effectively and provide demonstrations when necessary.
12. Re-stock, clean, and sterilize the clinical area and all instruments following patient procedures.
13. Prepare and track all lab work to be completed by the practice lab and outside labs.
14. Assist in pouring up impressions, trimming models, and making appliances as trained.
15. Place a care call to patients after a difficult appointment.
16. Update the patient's health history and patient information as needed by asking the patient at each visit if there have been any changes to their health or contact information since their last visit.
17. Follow all OSHA guidelines as documented in the OSHA manual. Maintain the required annual OSHA and HIPAA certification.
18. Maintain all sterilization equipment as required, including performing monthly spore testing, servicing, and logs.
19. Meet all requirements for state licensure (i.e., CPR, CE for RDA, RDOA, etc.)
20. Help maintain the supply levels and cleanliness of all areas of the office.
21. Actively participate in marketing activities to continue promoting the health and growth of the practice.
22. Be an active participant in daily huddles and team meetings.
23. Always demonstrate teamwork. Assist in other areas of the office when necessary (i.e., answering phones, unpacking supplies, scheduling patients, etc.)
24. Maintain consistent and clear communication with the doctor and Smile Advisor.
25. Perform other tasks as assigned by the orthodontist.

4. Ability to work basic mathematical concepts.
5. Attention to details and follow-up on tasks.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- State-approved clinical assisting and x-ray/imaging licensure. CPR certification is required. Coronal Polish and Sealant certified.
- High school diploma, plus 1 to 3 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Dental experience and a strong understanding of practice software programs are necessary.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.50 - $22.50 per hour
