Overview

SMS Data Products Group, Inc. is seeking a Technical Writer to join our Air Force Research Labs PRsISM contract at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. This position will provide technical writing, graphic, and instructional video presentations in support of various projects across the Enterprise. Responsibilities include independently creating, assimilating, and conveying technical materials in a concise and effective manner for Government and end user review. This position will ensure that the purpose, context, and document design meet’s the applicable standards and formatting conventions of DoD and Air Force Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Compose clear and coherent technical information, discuss commercial and industrial products and services, write instruction manuals for users, and possess complete understanding of a company's products and applications
• Possess excellent technical writing skills and ability to conduct peer review of technical documents (task specific deliverables) for grammar, content and writing style
• Be able to comply with short suspense's and be able to handle sensitive and complex issues with discretion and good judgment
• Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in both technical and business environments
• Research and builds knowledge about products, services, technology, or concepts to be documented
• Maintains a knowledge base for users which contains informational articles and instructional videos on processes
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to document processes, update records, and create documents which clearly communicate to users how to complete tasks
• Work independently and efficiently in high-paced environment.
• Develop a thorough understanding of the audience and the documentation required by meeting with colleagues and working with managers to discuss technical problems
• Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information and instructions for greatest reader comprehension and writes and edits technical information accordingly
• Prepare graphics and illustrations to elaborate on or complement technical writing
• Meet with subject matter experts in order to ensure that specialized topics are appropriately addressed and discussed
• Revise, edit, or update instructions, technical information, and frequently asked questions as necessary
• Create, adapt, and follow project schedules and deadlines

Qualifications

• Active DoD Clearance (or the ability to acquire one)
• Expert ability to communicate effectively in both oral, written, electronic, web, video forms with all levels of staff
• Experience in presenting technical information in a live setting, such as classroom training, presentations, or video conference.
• 3 or more years professional experience in a technical or communications related field

• Bachelor's Degree preferred, in a technical field such as computer science or a focus on English, writing, or communications. Or experience (1 for 1) in any of the aforementioned fields of study.

• Strong technical writing expertise
• Ability to work well in a strong collaborative team-oriented environment
• Ability to effectively present information to, and interact well with, different levels of the organization
• Very strong communication and in-person interaction skills
• Strong working knowledge of large, complex IT environments
• Expert ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with all levels of staff
• Three or more years of experience in Army, DoD, or IC at the Headquarters, Department of the Army, or major command level (e.g. ARCYBER, NETCOM, 7th Signal Command, Program Executive Office, etc) or in industry implementing similar solutions
