Snorkel AI is looking for an experienced VP of Finance to steer us through our next phase of startup growth. As a key member of the Executive Team, this leader will guide the company in all financial matters and will play a pivotal role in shaping our financial and operational strategies. This position reports to the CEO.
This role demands an individual with significant startup experience, who is agile in an early stage company and has the ability to navigate a high-growth environment with ease. This person will be open to taking big bets while also holding fast to appropriate constraints to keep ourselves grounded in good governance. They will interact with key stakeholders, including the company’s Board of Directors, its shareholders, financing partners, customers, vendors, and professional advisors - communicating constraints and challenging relevant assumptions. They will facilitate conversations to uncover organizational pain points and ensure open communication and appropriate transparency about the financial results and stability of the organization. The role will ensure our planning and forecasting processes evolve and have a focus on the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Partnership: Operate as a trusted partner to the CEO (and extended Exec team), Board, and Investors, supporting decision-making by providing meaningful financial analysis, transparency & insights
- Strategic Financial Planning: Lead comprehensive financial planning processes, aligning them with the company’s long-term strategic goals. Manage and lead the implementation of new finance processes, procedures, and systems to enhance the finance operation, organizational procedures, information flow and planning.
- Investor Relations: Cultivate relationships with potential investors and stakeholders, securing funding for the next stages of growth.
- Financial Modeling: Develop and refine sophisticated financial models to inform business decisions, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals.
- Revenue Recognition: Partner with Legal to address revenue recognition issues during negotiation of complex deal with large enterprises
- Operational Oversight: Drive operational efficiencies across the company, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance and business operations team, fostering talent development and growth.
- Business Intelligence & Analysis: Leverage data-driven insights to inform business strategies and operational decisions.
- Regulatory Requirements: Own the regulatory reporting requirements, statutory accounts, and the relationship with audit and other advisory firms
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
- 10 years of progressive finance experience, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles within high-growth startups.
- Proven experience in investor relations and capital raising for Series A . Ideally has seen companies scale from seed to $100M.
- Experience working in a VC-backed, high-growth startup environment.
- Proven track record of strong partnership with a CEO and Exec team.
- Well-developed leadership skills, comfort in operating at an Exec level.
- Able to toggle between both strategic and operational levels, seamlessly switching between the two depending on the scenario.
- Exceptional financial modeling, analytical, and forecasting skills.
- Ability to thrive in dynamic startup environments, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Strong people management experience, with excellent relationship, coaching, and communication skills with employees at all levels.
