Job Summary:

Snow's Garden Center is seeking a highly experienced Estate Gardener to join our team. As a Part-Time or Full-Time Estate Gardener, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the appearance of residential gardens and landscapes in the Charlottesville, VA area. Your horticultural skill will help contribute to the beautification of our most cherished properties.

Duties:

- Perform regular groundskeeping tasks such as weeding, pruning, and other detail work.

- Prune small trees, shrubs, and hedges to maintain their shape and health (with and without the use of a ladder)

- Maintain perennials, annuals, and groundcover beds. Dividing, staking, separating, and deadheading as needed.

- Monitor and irrigate new plants to ensure proper hydration.

- Apply organically-based fertilizers and herbicides on a selective basis.

- Maintain garden beds by mulching, cultivating, and removing debris

- Operate battery-powered tools and equipment safely and efficiently

- Collaborate with Landscape Designers and Horticulturists to design and implement new landscape projects

- Maintain cleanliness and organization of gardening tools and equipment

Skills:

- Strong knowledge of herbaceous and woody plant-care techniques and landscape maintenance practices

- Strong knowledge of proper pruning techniques (naturalistic, formal, thinning, dormant, espalier, etc)

- Proficiency in using battery-operated and gasoline power tools such as hedge shears, chain saws, and blowers.

- Ability to identify common plant diseases, pests, and weeds

- Knowledge of plant growth patterns and requirements for different species, including native plants

- Attention to detail in maintaining the aesthetics of outdoor spaces

- Physical stamina to perform manual labor in various weather conditions

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
