Mines Dining by Sodexo is seeking our Catering Manager III (Catering Director) for the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. Enjoy a campus schedule with most Campus Breaks and HOLIDAYS OFF!. Our successful candidate will lead extensive high-profile catering on and off campus, consistent campus administration influence and follow up on all events.

As Catering Director, you will drive an innovative, high-end catering program to grow our dynamic account. Responsibilities of this role include, front line employee retention, staffing, budgeting, client relations, inventory, cash handling, hands on event management, and client follow-up. We are seeking an experienced, high energy, innovative leader to join our team. This position works closely with client customers, the executive chef, and general manager to exceed guest expectations and deliver outstanding food quality.

Three weeks after hire, all newly hired managers will travel to participate in a two-week training at a nearby Sodexo Center for Excellence. Through this comprehensive onboarding model managers will be equipped to execute their positions at the highest level, train and lead their teams to do the same, and build a culture of excellence in their respective units.

Reporting to the General Manager, the ideal Catering Director will possess:

  • 3 years of previous catering management experience, preferably within a campus setting
  • Solid organizational skills and excellent leadership/team building skills
  • Understanding of menu planning and food cost.
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Proven ability to handle catering at all levels from students to executives
  • Passion for excellent guest service and attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor

The targeted salary for this position is $65,000-$75,000

Position Summary:
Oversight of catering activities for a medium to large size location/unit with less than $1.5M in managed catering volume. Complex events with a high degree of hands on involvement in catering solutions. Large amount of high profile events. Strong client interaction.
Key Duties
  • Oversight of Sodexo resources, recipes, systems and use of catering programs to direct daily catering events including; food production, inventory, product deliveries, invoices, and procurement operations.
  • Oversight of the sales process for catering and/or conference services. Works with client and customers to design events.
  • Ensures employees have appropriate equipment, supplies and resources to perform their job, and meet goals, cost controls and deadlines as assigned.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe work environment including both food and physical safety in order to comply with all regulatory and Sodexo standards in various environments. Drives the Zero Harm mindset.
  • Complies with budget requirements by controlling costs (i.e. labor, inventory, equipment, materials) and making adjustments when necessary
  • Supervises employees by delegating, assigning and prioritizing activities, and monitoring operating standards

Qualifications & Requirements:
Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience – 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
