What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Residential Projects position at Solar States?
We are now again expanding our residential services team and are seeking to fill a new important position that will be part of the senior management team – Director of Residential Services.
As a new role, the obligations and expectations of the Director of Residential Services are somewhat flexible and will evolve based on mutually acceptable changes over the first few months of employment. In general, the leader in this position is expected to:
Position Responsibilities:
- Drive overall operational efficiency and a resulting minimization of the cost of installations, while maintaining market-leading quality of installations
- Directly support and manage the Residential Services Foreman, who in turn directly manages the installation crews
- Work in concert with the Operations Manager, who oversees the Back Office Operations team which conducts residential site surveys, prepares residential construction documents, and secures permits; provide technical support to the Back Office Operations team
- Support and expand our in-field safety program, ensuring OSHA compliant work environments at all times
- Work in concert with the Service & OM Manager, who oversees the Service Team, which is responsible for the service and support needs of our growing installed projects and 3rd party transfer service clients and may provide service and repairs on recent installations
- Engage with the Director of Workforce Development to enhance our solar education and recruitment programs
- Engage with the Director of Sales and Marketing to ensure an effective bi-directional feedback loop on pros and cons of products being sold
- Invest 10% to 20% of total time in the field, to directly observe and to continually drive improvements in the field operations.
- Expand the Senior Management Team as a new Director; work with and reporting to the five other directors, the COO and the CEO to drive best strategies and growth.
Reporting Structure:
This critical role is a direct report to the CEO. It is based in Philadelphia. The peers of the role are:
- Director of Back Office Operations
- Director of Commercial Services
- Director of Workforce Development
- Director of Procurement and Warehouse
- Director of Sales & Marketing
- O&M Manager
Prerequisites for Consideration:
- Three minimum years experience in the solar field or related renewable energy field, with a minimum of 1 year field experience plus 1 year experience in overseeing other team members.
- Ability to read conventional PV plans and single lines
- Familiarity working in common software environments such as the Google suite of business programs.
- NABCEP PVIP Certification, OR an existing eagerness to sit for and pass the NABCEP exam (which would be at Company’s; expense and time)
- Comfort working at heights that require OSHA fall protection
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Unabashed enthusiasm for renewable energy and equitable employment opportunities.
Special Considerations:
Solar States will place priority on candidates who also bring one of more of the following skills or experiences, although none of them are prerequisites for the position:
- Direct related experience as a crew lead or foreman in a solar installation team
- Direct trades experience as an electrician
- Direct general trade experience (GWB work, carpentry, roofing, etc.)
- Proven trades team leadership skills over a 3 year period
- OSHA Trainer Certification
- A four year college degree
Compensation & Benefits:
Starting base salary of $70,000 to $90,000, depending upon direct experience and current skill set. Candidates with 5 years solar experience and an electrician’s license may be eligible for a starting base salary higher than the range cited above.
