Job Goal: In collaboration with the MLE Team, provide leadership in curriculum development, professional development, and instructional coaching to educators of multilingual learners aligned with the department and district’s mission and vision.
Qualifications:
- DESE ESL certification required
- Master Degree in Language, Literacy, Linguistics or related field
- Bilingual/ bicultural strongly preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to equity in educational opportunities and conditions for learning
- Ability to form positive relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Experience with leading individuals and teams through change and improvement processes
- 5 years teaching/ leadership experience
Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Implementation support including:
- Provide leadership and support in the development, implementation, and revisions of the ESL curriculum.
- Facilitate teacher group activities and the sharing of successful lessons to ensure the successful implementation of curriculum
- Collaborate in the revision of ESL curriculum in alignment with 2020 WIDA ELD Standards
- Assist with the selection of instructional materials and resources for MLE Dept.
- Contribute to MLE Resources for ML Educators Google Classroom and other web platforms
Coaching systems and support
- Coach and support teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing quality instruction for MLs
- Plan, model, and co-teach effective lessons with teachers.
- Assist teachers to integrate formative assessment into instructional practice
- Support classroom teachers and provide actionable feedback to teachers to improve to improve instructional planning, delivery, and assessment
- In collaboration with MLE Leadership Team, develop systems for teacher support and coaching
- Use assessment data to identify areas for student improvement, establish student and educator goals
Professional learning
- Develop and conduct professional learning opportunities for teachers connected to curriculum and instruction of multilingual learners
- Participate in on-going professional development by attending workshops, and institutes on specific subjects to enhance job performance such as knowledge in language acquisition, literacy development, coaching skills, and adult learning theory.
Data Management and Systems
- Meet regularly with MLE Team regarding classroom practices and ongoing feedback.
- Collaborate with MLE Team and assist educators and school based teams in review and analysis of student progress data and participate as needed in A&R, LAT and MTSS processes
- Create systems of support for educators such as curriculum planning teams, peer observation, and PLC’s
- Monitor MLE Data Trackers, analyze performance and progress data, and collaborate in the formation of goals for students and MLE Department
- Provide support to MLE Educators in developing and completing ML student Success Plans

Terms of Employment:
As per the Somerville Educators Association, Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement
School Year Schedule (September - June)
Additional 10 days as per the SEU, Unit A, Collective Bargaining Agreement
