The Property Underwriting and Product Specialist role will provide product market analysis of Sompo’s Property Product and Technical Support to the Property Underwriters and Underwriting Technicians. This position is a part of the Chief Strategic Officer’s Organization and will directly report into the Senior Vice President, Property Product & Underwriting Leader.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and implement new and revised workflows within existing capabilities and as new functionality is released
- Manage multiple technical responsibilities and identify opportunities for improvement in operational business processes, in the following areas:
- Systems implementation
- Equipment Breakdown workflow and system implementation
- Multinational policy underwriting and workflow management
- Technical Property training and development
- Underwriting communication and documentation through SharePoint and other tools
- Provide counsel and training on general property insurance, technical topics/forms and underwriting best practices across multiple business units, including Legal, Operations and Compliance
- Monitor and liaise various audits (underwriting, internal department audit, treaty reinsurance audit) and identify opportunities for improvement through training, automation, and workflow management
- Identify opportunities to improve or introduce new Property related products and services
- Support Sompo product and underwriting through analysis and management of current/future needs
- Assist in standardization and automation of underwriting tools across global business units
- Assist in development of underwriting strategy and guidance
- Analyze reports to aid in Property portfolio and industry underwriting
- Identify specific growth and loss drivers
- Discover data-driven recommendations for portfolio improvement
- Coordinate with business unit leaders and learning/development teams to develop educational pathways that align with underwriting specializations
- Work closely with Project Managers on strategy/plan, development, and implementation of projects
- Lead communications related to the status of projects and deliverables
- Other duties as required by management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 8-10 years Commercial Property Underwriting preferred
- Ability to communicate and gain buy in from all levels of the organization to include Executive Leadership
- History of coordination and cross collaboration in a matrixed and cross disciplined environment
- Strong negotiating, analytical, written, and organizational skills
- Strong technical aptitude with expert level computer skills
- Experience in policy rating and claims systems preferred
- Guidewire, Genius, Image Right and Claims Center
- Collaborative communication that fosters problem solving and autonomy
- Experience that translates business needs into efficient technology solutions with success measures
- Results driven with an ability to work autonomously as a self-starter
Salary Range: $110,000– $185,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
