Job Description:

We are looking for a qualified lead preschool teacher to provide a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program for young children, both in groups and individually, as appropriate to the needs of children and the subject matter.

You will employ play and other techniques such as positive redirection to teach children about the world. We enourage learning through problem-solving, questioning, and experimenting. Nurture children, provide meals, crafts, and instruction, and ensure students and the environment are kept clean and safe. Program delivery should comply with all relevant legislation, BFTS and SoulShine policies and procedures, as well as demonstrate SoulShine’s unique value set.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

TEACHER & TEAM SUPPORT:

  • Implement daily curriculum.
  • Review the monthly calendar of activities.
  • Gather necessary activity supplies daily.
  • Execute planned activities on their assigned day, and ensure active learning experiences.
  • Supports the lead teacher.
  • Manage the classroom.
  • Responsible for the state of the classroom.
  • Provide basic needs for all children in your care, including food, water, diapering or restroom breaks, attention, and general care.
  • Provide positive encouragement to children.
  • Keep children engaged and active at all times.
  • Handle children appropriately at all times.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of spaces at all times.
  • Ensure the classroom is organized at the end of each day.
  • Ensure their classroom and assigned restroom stocked with all necessary supplies.
  • Request Floor Manager support as needed for supply refills.
  • Ensure the responsible use of materials and equipment by Assistant Teachers and students.
  • Take and post meaningful pictures of children engaged in meaningful activities, ensuring you all following all requirements for framing, content, and frequency.

FAMILY INTERACTIONS:

  • Provide appropriate feedback to parents at pick-up each day, either in person or via the daily log.
  • Always practice respectful communications.
  • Use the “compliment sandwich” method, begin, and end with positive information.
  • Meet and greet any individual entering the classroom.
  • Stay informed of SoulShine events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents about the child’s experience in the classroom that day.
  • Attend parent meetings as needed.

SCHOOL OPERATIONS:

  • Maintain accurate and complete BrightWheel feeds for each student in your care.
  • Prepare Incident/Illness Reports and report all incidents/illnesses to the manager on duty.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, training sessions, and events.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

  • Make sure students' faces and hands are thoroughly cleaned and follow proper hygiene.
  • Stay aware of safety issues and look for items of concern that may have not been noticed.
  • Must meet all requirements stipulated by the state for this position.
  • Supply basic first-aid to children and team members as necessary.
  • Adheres to safety standards, including universal precautions in handling blood and bodily fluids.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (with or without corrective lenses).
  • Possess strong hearing acuity.
  • Supervise and interact daily with children outdoors for extended periods in varied weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sometimes work in the office.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sometimes work in the garden outdoors.
