Sound Specialty Pharmacy is a Long Term Care (closed-door) pharmacy specializing primarily in compliance packaging and specialty medications for behavioral health, addiction treatment, memory care, nursing facilities, and adult family homes. We are open Monday-Friday, from 8:30 am to 5 pm. We also exclusively service a single facility from 4 pm until approximately 7:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Flexibility and willingness to work evenings, as well as help with local delivery is required for this position.

The Following describes the essential skills required of the job. Moreover, however, the ability to connect, care and communicate effectively with our clients and caregivers is highly desirable and necessary.

1. The primary purpose of the registered pharmacy technician is to expedite the processing of prescriptions. The key to productivity is the ABILITY of the registered pharmacy technician to initiate the necessary procedures to start the process of filling the prescription. To carry out this duty, the registered pharmacy technician must be organized. S/he is responsible for developing an efficient workflow system.

2. The registered pharmacy technician is PERMITTED to perform the following duties:

 Remove drugs from stock

 Count, pour or mix pharmaceuticals

 Place products in containers

 Affix the labels to containers

 Package and repackage

 Receive new prescriptions from the customers at the pharmacy for filling.

 Verify the patient’s name and address (if applicable) at the time of receiving new prescriptions from the customer

 Verify the prescriber’s name (if not legible) at the time of receiving new prescriptions from the customer

 Answer the telephone

 Direct calls to the pharmacist (when appropriate) such as, but may not be limited to, the following:

 New prescriptions

 Medication questions

 Decisions requiring professional judgement

 Obtain the original prescription from the pharmacy’s files when clarification is needed

 Type labels for new prescriptions, as well as, labels for those refill prescriptions requiring a label

 When applicable, the registered pharmacy technician shall enter the appropriate information into the computer so that a computer-generated label will be created

 Accommodate customers when they arrive to pick up their prescriptions. This entails, but is not limited to, the following:

 Retrieve and give customers their appropriate prescription(s)

 Process customers cash register transactions efficiently and promptly for both new and refill prescriptions

 Ensure that the pharmacist is properly notified when a prescription is not a refill so that the pharmacist can comply with patient counseling protocol

3. The registered pharmacy technician WILL also be involved in the following functions that are NOT directly related to the actual filling of prescriptions. \

 Complete and process third-party documents

 File prescription books or new prescriptions

 File patient profiles

 Fill bills with prescription vials

 Process incoming orders, such as, but may not be limited to, the following:

 Verify that items ordered corresponds with items that are received by the pharmacy

 Verify that the invoiced price matches the price that the pharmacy was quoted

 Ensure that all products received have appropriate “shelf life” remaining before expiration

 Ensure that the appropriate price stickers are affixed to the items ordered along with placing the item on stock shelves or in refrigerator, when required.

 Ensure that the newly received items are appropriate placed on the stock shelves or in refrigerator

 Verify that the pharmacy’s stock has sufficient ‘shelf life,’ as directed by the pharmacy manager  Remove outdated items from the pharmacy’s shelves, when necessary

 Clean pharmacy shelves and work areas

 Maintain pharmacy premises in a satisfactory state of cleanliness

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.50 - $28.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
