What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sustainability Intern - Summer 2024 position at SoundTransit?
This is a paid internship, range of $19/hr - $35/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Sound Transit's PEPD Department oversees transit projects and services for sustainable and livable communities throughout Puget Sound region. The sustainability intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the Sustainability Division team that oversees the agency's sustainability services and to learn how a large regional transit system is managed.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
JOB DUTIES:
- General research and data collection on sustainability topics as needed.
- Data collection and analysis to support annual sustainability reporting KPIs and metrics, as well as sustainability initiatives for construction.
- Research internal and external communications about sustainability topics.
POTENTIAL PROJECTS:
- Develop web pages for LEED stations.
- Develop and conduct employee engagement campaign around waste management.
- Develop recommendations to strengthen the agency's ability to reuse and divert demolition materials.
- Develop recommendations about sourcing materials and equipment from manufacturers and suppliers that promote sustainable practices.
- Develop recommendations about how to include embodied carbon in procurement policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in any aspect of Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, Urban Planning, Public Affairs, Government Relations, Communications or other non-technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Understanding and passion about sustainability.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Excellent research skills.
- Computer skills with an emphasis on Word, Excel and file management

- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
