The Department of Transportation-Division of Finance & Management is looking for a motivated, self-starting, and detail-oriented individual to fill an Accountant position in Pierre, SD. As part of the Accounting/Auditing career family, there is opportunity for career growth. This position will work with the Accounting Division within the Fixed Asset system. Duties include monitoring requests sent to property management for changes; consolidating disposal of capital assets; reviewing spring and fall auctions; reviewing revenues from sales; preparing WIP summaries; and preparing final CIP/WIP reports.

The total compensation of Hourly Wage State/Federal Benefits for a typical year for entry level Accountant is approximately $72,731.00 annually.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business degree with major coursework in accounting or finance or one to five years progressive experience in accounting field.

Knowledge of:

• governmental fund accounting;
• generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) standards and generally accepted accounting standards board (GASB) statements;
• Microsoft Excel, Word, Query, and other desktop tools;
• FHWA policies and procedures (preferred but not required);
• federal funding agreements (preferred but not required).

Skill to:

• interpret rules and regulations.

Ability to:

• attend to all details of the assignment and complete work accurately;
• exercise sound prompt judgement;
• communicate information clearly and concisely;
• establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
• be a problem solver;
• work independently;
• prioritize work and meet deadlines.
