Job Title: IT Education Specialist

Accountable to: Deputy Executive Director of Operations

Department: Operations

FLSA Status: Full-time Non-Exempt

Salary: $55,000-$80,000

Standard Office Hours: Twelve-month position; 40 hours per week M-F within the hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and other times to reach agency goals or job duties.

Decision Making Authority: Responsible for best interests of SEEC given what has been budgeted and carefully utilizes funding to achieve expected goals. Approval required from Deputy Executive Director of Operations (or assigned designee) on specific matters as outlined in policies and procedures.

Position Overview:

Join our dynamic team at the South East Education Cooperative, a regional education association dedicated to advancing education in North Dakota. We collaborate closely with K-12 school districts and early childhood providers, fostering innovation and collaboration through quality services and visionary leadership.

The Information Technology Specialist is responsible for supporting SEEC and its staff in its mission of enhancing education in ND through quality services and visionary leadership. This role is responsible for supporting SEEC’s staff by maintaining computer systems and networks to their highest level of functionality, and appropriate onboarding and training of SEEC employees in computer and system usage. Within this role there is the opportunity to engage with member schools to develop additional programs and services to support the needs of SEEC’s K-12 member schools.

Significant Job Duties

50% Administering IT Infrastructure

  • Provide basic day-to-day operational support for a computing environment for onsite and remote staff.
  • Work with third-party IT vendor and ND Internet Technology Department to build and maintain updated and efficient IT systems and networks to optimize the role of technology for SEEC employees. Monitor and follow up with pending tickets or unresolved issues.
  • Assist with setting up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers etc.)
  • Respond to emergency needs of SEEC staff and resolve issues relating to functionality of software and hardware.
  • Install, configure and update appropriate software and functions according to specifications.
  • Ensure security and privacy of IT systems.
  • Identify current computer and network inventory, create replacement plan and procure new equipment.

2. 40%: Support & Development

  • Develop training and opportunities to enhance technology skills and services for SEEC staff and member schools.
  • Engage in strategic discussions about cybersecurity, student performance systems, business and operations processes and improvement for SEEC staff and member schools.
  • Support and negotiate contracts for all software and hardware used within the SEEC.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to SEEC Executive Team on organizational technology needs including software, hardware and system updates.
  • Follow established IT budget.

3. 5% Stakeholder Relationships

  • Collaborate with vendors, providers, and other agencies to advance SEEC’s IT functionality and infrastructure.
  • Expected to be knowledgeable of the programs and offerings of the agency in order to answer basic questions posed by those contacting the agency and to be able to connect clients to correct resources within the agency.

4. 5% Professional Development

  • Build and extend own knowledge through a variety of professional development activities including but not limited to webinars, training classes, special certifications and by engaging in other professional development activities.

Essential Skills, Experience and Expertise:

  • Education: associate degree in information technology or related field or two years' experience as an Information Technology Specialist.
  • Experience: minimum of two years' experience in a business setting assisting users with installation, troubleshooting and diagnosing possible hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Experience working in the education field is desired.
  • Action oriented, entrepreneurial, and innovative approach to service delivery.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize responsibilities, problem solve, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet competing deadlines.
  • Takes initiative and is a self-starter.
  • Action oriented, entrepreneurial, and innovative approach to service delivery.
  • Service-driven attitude and the ability to remain composed and professional when high-pressure situations arise.
  • Driver’s License: Required.
  • Experience using Azure, O365, InTune and Microsoft operating systems.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Interaction levels with others: Requires high levels of interaction with others internally and external to the agency.
  • Position requires occasional travel to fulfill job goals. If not travelling, the work location is in Fargo at the SEEC office.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining professional demeanor.
  • Alternative schedules are infrequent.
  • Sit / Stand / Walk / Stoop: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.
  • Use of Phone/ Computer /Software / Office Equipment: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined.
  • Climb / Pull / Lift: Up to 8-10 hours a day for each activity individually or combined. Move and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Temperatures ranges for work environment: Mostly a typical office environment with temperatures of 60-85°F but can experience temperatures from -40 °F to 110°F when performing tasks outside of office.
  • Noise: Noise levels reflect typical office environment and may require hearing protection when using certain equipment or entering certain areas.
  • Hazardous Conditions or Chemicals Exposure: Exposure to small quantities of hazardous chemicals found in office supplies such as toner, glues, etc.

Special Position Requirements

  • Travel: Some travel expected but potential travel would be within North Dakota.
  • Clothing: Professional attire that creates a positive impression on staff, clients, stakeholders, Board Members and funding or partner organizations.

Position Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Essential Functions

A critical part of every position is achieving the goals set for the position while delivering high levels of satisfaction to internal and external customers. This is realized by building positive internal individual and team relationships, positive relationships with external partners and exhibiting behaviors that contribute to the success of short and long-term goals of the agency. These behaviors include a focus on timely completion and high quality of work (with or without supervision) while following all legal, compliance, departmental, documentation, safety, timelines, program and other standards per company policies and procedures.

Position requires close collaboration with Deputy Director of Operations, SEEC employees, SEEC members and any third-party vendor providing IT services to the SEEC.

Performance is equally a function of goal attainment; timely and accurate completion of assignments; building positive internal and external relationships; planning, communicating and coordinating work to avoid last minute confusion; and adherence legal/compliance guidelines and policies/procedures.
