This position will be based in the Port Townsend office and will be instrumental in supporting Olympic Peninsula career connected learning and collaboration across Kitsap, Jefferson, Clallam, Mason, and Pierce counties. Under the supervision of the West Sound STEM Assistant Director, the Career Connected Learning Manager will provide support for school districts, businesses, military partners, non-profits, and more, and staff in the regional West Sound STEM Network community.

Are you committed to fostering imagination, and inspiration in our region?  Join the innovative West Sound STEM Network team!  West Sound STEM Network is a consortium of school districts, libraries, military, higher education, non-profits, out-of-school providers, and more—all dedicated to increasing STEM opportunities for youth of all ages.  The West Sound STEM Career-Connected Learning Manager will support and manage programs that increase postsecondary pathways and connect area students from multiple districts to local, regional, and global industries through career connected learning experiences.  Programs will include STEM Like ME!®, internships, job shadowing, job fairs, pre-apprenticeships, appropriate state funded grants, and more. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a STEM Network and Career Connect Washington team member with responsibility for the support and development of career-connected learning opportunities for youth on the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas;
  • Co-develop and co-lead, in partnership with Port Orchard based Career Connected Learning Manager, STEM Like ME!®programming to bring industry role models into middle school classrooms;
  • Co-lead and support career exploration opportunities for schools;
  • Support pathways for youth, from early learning to adult, that lead to a postsecondary credential (certificate, 2-year, 4-year degree, etc.);
  • Support educator professional learning events, workshops, and cohorts;
  • Supports the West Sound STEM Network Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Horizon grant to increase postsecondary enrollment;
  • Feature and promote registered apprenticeship programs at outreach events;
  • Develop and offer outreach events around skilled trades;
  • Support and co-facilitate roundtables with teachers, youth, and industry representatives to engage youth and expose youth to career pathways;
  • Support strategic partnerships involving business and community-based organizations to leverage resources and opportunities for students; 
  • Attend and contribute to regional Career and Technical Education Advisories.
  • Prepare presentations, special reports, and/or documents concerning assigned programs for public information as needed;
  • Meet compliance with relevant policies and regulations;
  • Collaborate with postsecondary learning institutions, including 2 and 4-year colleges and apprenticeship programs to support dual-credit and industry-recognized certificates; 
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
  • Requires the use of multiple communication and technology systems, which may include e-mail, computers, instructional technology, and web-based resources;
  • Work collaboratively with West Sound STEM Network members, administrators, teachers, businesses, and others;
  • Maintain Network records, orders, and inventory in a timely and orderly fashion. Report progress to STEM Network Assistant Director;
  • Work collaboratively to support grant applications;
  • Work cooperatively with staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking and 25% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, a generally hazard free environment, and in varying atmospheric conditions. Work environments during outreach events may include businesses, school districts, and industry work-sites. Due to the large geographic area, driving and/or travel is a relevant part of this job.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Postsecondary certificate or degree;
  • Teaching and/or administrative experience or equivalent preferred;
  • Targeted job-related education that meets the District’s prerequisite requirements.

Clearances:

  • Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.

Certificates:

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance, when using a personal vehicle for District business);
  • First Aid and CPR Certification may be required after hiring.
