JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director-Facilities, perform a variety of skilled maintenance repair work on District buildings, facilities, equipment and grounds which may include performing tasks in skilled carpentry, cabinet making and related work in the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of equipment and structures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Make minor repairs and adjustments to District facilities; alter, repair, inspect, construct and install articles and structures of wood, such as partitions, counters, doors, scaffolds and forms.
- Construct, assemble, install and repair cabinets, bookcases, tables, chairs, drawers, desks and related items; match materials for color, grain and texture; trim component parts of joints to assure proper fit; utilize hand tools, such as planes, chisels and wood files.
- Prepare surfaces for finishing as required; repair and modify existing furniture, equipment and fixtures; face asphalt and concrete with redwood borders.
- Cut, fit and hang doors; mount whiteboards and equipment as assigned; maintain and repair woodwork of buildings; lay and repair floors and roofs.
- Cut, fit and lay ceramic tile; apply composition roofing; hang sheetrock; perform minor plastering of interiors and exteriors; repair furniture, saw, sand and glue formica; set up and remove scaffolding as needed; cut and install acoustical material.
- Repair and replace dry wall; plaster surfaces in preparation for painting; repair floor, ceiling and ceramic tiles; repair carpeting; repair and install gutters and down spouts and sheet metal flashing.
- Work from blueprints, schematics, rough sketches and technical manuals; maintain records of time and materials; utilize appropriate safety precautions in the performance of duties to assure the safety of students and staff; assist other maintenance personnel by performing unskilled of semiskilled duties; perform routine safety inspection of assigned vehicles.
- Lubricate operating parts of playground equipment; construct forms and perform rough concrete and routine finish work; perform routine glazing of standard windows and doors using glass materials; measure, cut, install and clean glazing materials.
- Install and repair chain-link fences and gates; reinforce end posts; repair and install goal posts, backstops and other athletic field equipment; repair bleachers and construct wooden fences; assemble lunch tables.
- Operate a variety of tools and equipment including a cement mixer, jackhammer, compressor, manlift, concrete saw and a variety of hand and power tools; operates saws, planers, shapers, joiners, sanders, bandsaws and other wood-working machinery; anchor equipment to floors or wall; perform minor welding using oxy-acetaline and arc welders; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
- Research catalogs and contact suppliers to locate parts and materials; requisitions, receive and store parts and materials; maintain and store tools in accordance with departmental procedures; provide for the security of tools, materials and equipment at the work site.
- Communicate with personnel to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns.
- Maintain records related to work orders and assigned activities.
- Assist with moving furniture to be placed in storage as assigned; assist with setting up for meetings and special events as assigned.
- Assist with digging trenches for utility lines as assigned by the position.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Standard tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in general construction, maintenance and repair.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or equivalent GED and two years performing a variety of maintenance work in the building maintenance trade.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California Class C driver’s license.
