POSITION OVERVIEW
Looking for a creative and innovative director to take our guest experience programs "to the next level"! The Director of Recreation leads and manages all of the operations of the resort's recreation facilities, which includes multiple pools, beach operations, educational programs and activities, and special events for the resort.
This position will be an amazing opportunity to be involved with opening Recreation Operations as we continue to reopen the resort. This role will be setting the framework for the future success of the Recreation Team as well as the resort as a whole.
RATE OF PAY salaried full-time position at $85,000 per year
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management or related field, or equivalent work experience required.
Experience: 3-5 years in a managerial role; hospitality background is preferred.
Required: Must have a valid driver’s license, motor vehicle background check will be completed.
Required: Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to kids camps, pool and beach operations, and safety guidelines.
Certifications: CPR/First Aid/AED/Heimlich Maneuver Certified; can also arrange to have certification done through the resort. Specialty certifications are sought after like Event Management.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for directing a staff of 10 employees, including scheduling, annual reviews and hiring.
- Hire, train and provide direct leadership for the Recreation staff including Beach and Pool Attendants, Lead Attendants, Activities Coordinators, and interns.
- Follow up on and act upon owner and guest feedback, concerns and suggestions related to recreational events and activities.
- Ensure that the safety of our owners, guests, and service professionals are always maintained working hand in hand with multiple departments including our security department.
- Inspects equipment or facilities for functionality and conducts basic maintenance or schedules repairs as needed.
- Monitors staff performance in assigned department offering training and evaluation of performance standards on a routine basis.
- Direct the development of the Recreation Staff.
- Keep all areas neat, clean and in good repair at all times including work vehicles.
- Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs in compliance with health and safety standards.
- Provides great public relations and is knowledgeable of resort happenings; all to be of better service to our guests and owners.
- Ensure productive staffing schedules, handling employee relation issues, conducting interviews, and ensure proper training of associates in all areas.
- Assists in the development, recommendation and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the resort. Check in’s with team to ensure forward movement and be involved in evaluation processes.
- Prepare necessary reports, order supplies and be accountable for departmental accounting; revenues, labor, and expenses.
- Works on projects, marketing initiatives, and contributes ideas to the growth of the department. Cross trained in all other areas within the Recreation Department.
- Assistance with the implementation of the Recreation Department’s internship program.
- Attend company meetings whenever necessary. Facilitate daily and monthly meetings with associates for effective communication.
POOL & BEACH OPERATIONS
- Monitors the day-to-day operations of the Resort Pool Complex and beach operations/services. Oversees the cabana & beach rental programs.
- Provides direction to and supervises associates, including selecting, monitoring, training, scheduling, and determining workloads.
- Performs daily office procedures that includes: monitoring emails for cabana and beach chair/umbrella reservations. Answering phone and following up on voicemails. Ensuring beach rental equipment is delivered and picked up in a timely manner. Prepping associates and coverage when not available.
- Manage all guest issues as they pertain to the pool and beach areas, equipment or pool malfunctions are reported into respective departments to ensure timely repairs.
- Reports any deficiencies to superiors. Formulates and organizes program plans and schedules for seasonal and weekly maintenance.
- Monitors inventory of cabana supplies (purchasing and receiving dept.) and place orders accordingly to avoid supplies running out.
- Assists with monitoring inventory of towels, pool lounge chairs, pool umbrellas, beach lounge chairs, and beach umbrellas.
KIDS AND FAMILY PROGRAMMING, SPECIAL EVENTS, HOLIDAY PLANNING & EXECUTION
- Develop and promote all areas of the Recreation Program, including drop off kids camps, arts and crafts, cultural arts, nature study, social recreation, and games.
- Develops and implements programs meant to promote healthy behavior or physical fitness.
- Schedules and promotes group exercise classes or wellness clinics.
- Experience with team building for small groups of guests to up to hundreds at one time.
- Initiates and maintains supply orders and inventory to ensure the department has the necessary items needed to perform its scheduled events and activities.
- Attending meetings as required and working with other departments to successfully implement activities for owners and guests.
- Assist in the Resort’s and surrounding communities’ sustainability or “greening” efforts.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Fluent in English language; bilingual is a bonus.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Decision-making skills are critical in this role.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Assist and advise where needed with all recreational needs throughout the department, including the pool, beach, daily activities, special events and group events.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, high heat, and humidity. Directly involved with hurricane preparedness and other extreme weather conditions monitored daily.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, stand for long hours, and be able to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment.
Ability to lift/move heavy objects. Must be able to lift 40 pounds and push or pull 300 pounds in a cart.
HOURS REQUIRED
40 - 50 hours per week, flexible schedule, days, and times may vary based on need. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evening, holidays, and weekends.
