General Statement of Job General Statement of Job The College Connection Specialist / Recruiter promotes a college-going and college-completion culture in our communities.

The College Connection Specialist / Recruiter represents the College by serving as a liaison to schools, community agencies, and employers to establish relationships and to connect prospective students with the College and provide support through the enrollment process.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides a positive, friendly and knowledgeable impression of the College utilizing excellent customer service.
  • Designs and implements recruitment initiatives and events.
  • Performs a wide variety of customer service and office support functions, including responding to inquiries and providing information to student applicants regarding the enrollment process.
  • Provides feedback, and recommendations regarding recruitment and enrollment processes and initiatives.
  • Interprets registration, admission, financial aid, and program policies to prospective students, the community, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Serves as student advocate to facilitate the enrollment process.
  • Provides preliminary residency and tuition information for prospective and current students.
  • Provides accurate information and support for admission, registration, financial aid, and payment options.
  • Is familiar with course prerequisites, degree evaluations, program requirements, and accreditation of schools to establish students’ qualification for admission.
  • Explains admission evaluations and degree progress to students.
  • Coordinates high school visits to speak to students, parents, and families to promote higher education opportunities.
  • Coordinates community organization / agency recruitment visits and presentations.
  • Serves as the contact person for internal coordination of college student recruitment and enrollment management goals utilizing specific knowledge of admissions, registration criteria and financial aid and / or scholarship information and deadlines.
  • Represents the College at recruitment events, application and financial aid drives, and college and career fairs.
  • Represents the College at elementary and middle school events and presentations.
  • Manages and coordinates community workshops, retreats, and recruitment efforts for prospective students.
  • Coordinates and implements enrollment programming and marketing strategies relating to targeted prospective, new, current, transfer, and returning student populations.
  • Analyzes trends in recruitment and enrollment to develop strategies and initiatives to address identified gaps.
  • Maintains communication with prospective students to facilitate the enrollment process.
  • Develops reports to track event attendance and activity.
  • Travels to local schools and community entities for presentations and events.
  • Utilizes the College Customer Relationship Management tool to facilitate communication plans and track students through the student lifecycle.
  • Assists with campus events and productions.
  • Assists with enrollment marketing strategies and activities.
  • Promotes and represents the College through various media outlets, business and committee meetings, and community functions.
  • Maintains familiarity with the College s policies and procedures in regards to recruitment and the enrollment process.
  • Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  • Serves as Campus Security Authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least one (1) year of front line customer service experience required.
  • At least one (1) year of higher education experience in student services, preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  • Critical thinking and data analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of student information systems.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish).
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
  • Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Security Sensitive position : All applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
  • Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Standing particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as : preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal;

and / or extensive reading.

Mobility to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
