What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Aide position at South Texas Health System?
Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients of all age groups. Responsible for receiving and processing laboratory specimens and determining where lab tests will be performed, in house or sent to reference labs. Responsible for performing waived and non-waived moderately complex testing under the onsite supervision of the general supervisor. Responsible for reporting results in a timely manner in accordance with Laboratory Policies and Procedures. Performs duties which may require both technical and professional judgment. Participates in Department’s Quality Control, Quality Assurance, maintenance and safety programs. Maintains parts, reagents and supplies in areas assigned. May be required to evaluate new methods, participate in teaching, continuing education, and other organizational activities. Performs any and all related duties under the supervision of a Medical Technologist. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Training should have included at least 4 months in a structured training program with clinical internship in a hospital setting.
2. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
1. High School diploma, GED or Higher Education required.
2. Completion of post-secondary program in a laboratory related science (i.e. Clinical Lab Technician) or equivalent work experience for each year required in secondary program.
3. National certification as Clinical Lab Technician, Physician Office Lab Technician or equivalent preferred.
