Position Title: Bookstore & Café Manager

Full/Part time: Full-time
Salary Range: $22 - $24 per hour
Date: July 2022

Summary/Objective:

The Bookstore & Café Manager position exists to provide a friendly, warm and inviting place as well as an atmosphere for others to build relational community.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage the staff of the Bookstore and Café.
  • Work with the staff to set annual professional and personal goals.
  • Equip the Bookstore and Café staff to maintain goals with excellent communication and coaching.
  • Meet with team or individuals on a regular basis.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and disciple Bookstore and Café volunteers.
  • Assist with daytime floor coverage to include preparing special coffees, stocking coffee supplies and complimentary coffee.
  • Interact with Bookstore and Café customers.
  • Assist in opening and closing the Bookstore and Café.
  • Order and stock Bookstore and Café supplies and resources.
  • Maintain the point of sale system when needed.
  • Maintain Espresso and Brewer machines as needed.
  • Create and maintain annual budget for Bookstore and Café.
  • Maintain communications with staff/ministries regarding needs, invoices, etc.
  • Conduct an annual inventory.
  • Approve Coffee Requests for Events.
  • Process new products into inventory, which includes, but not limited to, displaying new products and changing out displays for holidays.
  • Ensure towels and aprons are laundered. Clean, dust and sanitize Bookstore and Café.
  • Attend purchasing trips for new merchandise and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Time Requirements:

This position will be completed in 40 hours per week, generally Sunday through Thursday. Some evenings and holidays required.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a café and office environment and uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, desktop computers and telephones, along with coffee machines and grinders.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to move at a fast pace.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently required to sit and/or stand for sustained periods of time; lift, push, pull items in excess of 30 lbs; walk and reach with hands and arms.

Requirements:

Professional/Education

  • Managerial and café/restaurant experience preferred.
  • An ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of job.
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • An ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong customer service skills. Exceptional people skills. Able to lean into conflict and work thru with resolution.
  • Strong math and computer skills.
  • An ability to recruit, train, oversee and retain many volunteers.
