JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for determining the most effective utilization of the company’s natural gas capacity resources needed to satisfy customer demand for natural gas while meeting requirements for safety, operational reliability, and best cost. The manager will interface with other functions within the Company to establish and implement long-, mid-, and near-term gas supply plans, to reconcile natural gas purchase costs, and manage gas cost recovery mechanisms including gas cost hedging programs. The position helps develop demand forecasts and the portfolio of pipeline transportation, and seasonal and peak shaving storage capacity best suited to meet customer demand. The manager is the primary support for gas supply-related state regulatory matters.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the procurement of natural gas commodity using trading platforms such as ICE (Intercontinental Exchange) or through direct bilateral negotiations with counterparties
  • Manage the scheduling of natural gas delivery using interstate pipeline web-applications (i.e., electronic bulletin boards) such as Kinder Morgan’s DART, TC Energy’s GEMS, and Williams’ 1Line customer portals
  • Manage the entry and maintenance of critical transaction data in an Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system such as GasPro from Rise Solutions
  • Use energy industry data sources, such as various web platforms hosted by S&P Platts, to gather and assess business critical information
  • Collaborate with key members of related gas operations functions to develop daily plans for use of pipeline transportation, seasonal storage, and peak shaving capacity resources, leading to natural gas supply purchase requirements
  • Develop, communicate, and deliver department commodity sourcing strategies that include:
  • Seasonal supply purchases through a request for proposal (RFP) process and direct bilateral negotiations
  • Monthly baseload purchases and call options
  • Daily swing purchases and call options
  • City gate delivered daily swing and spot market purchases
  • Physical and financial hedging transactions
  • Develop key performance indicators to measure department performance
  • Ensure that department service levels meet the needs of other business units. This includes building relationships with key business unit stakeholders to coordinate strategic plans
  • Manage relationships between internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to ensure that the optimal sourcing approach is adopted, and the best total cost of meeting customer demand is achieved
  • Ensure that activities comply with legal, regulatory, and risk management procedures and requirements
  • Collaborate across all levels of leadership on initiatives and their impacts to customers and the Company
  • Coach, develop, and provide performance feedback to direct reports
  • Influence and develop relationships with stakeholders, business partners, suppliers, regulators, manufacturers, and third-party service providers
  • Ensure that department performance meets expectations and requirements, evaluate results, and take appropriate corrective action as needed
  • Prepare and administer financial budget according to plan; monitor variances, provide explanations for variances, and take appropriate corrective action

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or related discipline is required
  • MBA, EIT, PM certification or relevant advanced degree is preferred

Leadership Experience (Strongly Preferred):

  • 10 years including managerial leadership position experience with direct reports

OR

  • 8 years including managerial leadership position experience with direct reports, with a relevant advanced degree

  • Knowledge of natural gas utility operations
