Description
Position location can be negotiable with various Nicor Gas Illinois locations.
The purpose of this position is to supervise the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems used for corrosion control to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
Functional Expertise:
- Accountable to ensure that required readings (i.e. annual test points, isolated services, casings, bonds, foreign crossings) are performed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures.
- Accountable to ensure interference testing and monitoring (A/C & D/C) is performed and appropriate remediation taken.
- Accountable for design and implementation of interference mitigation
- Accountable for troubleshooting (i.e. low systems, shorted conditions) within a timely fashion (1 month)
- Accountable for ensuring work orders for remediation (i.e. install anodes, clear short, install insulator, repair / replace test station) are generated in a timely fashion. Follows through with necessary stakeholders to ensure completion in a timely fashion.
- Accountable for maintenance and updates of corrosion control mapping systems (Atlas pages / GIS) in a timely fashion
- Accountable for performance of QA checks on isolated service reads performed by Leak Survey contractor
- Accountable for designing new Cathodic Protection (CP) systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures.
- Accountable for monitoring new CP installation projects to ensure successful completion in accordance with plans and procedures
- Accountable for troubleshooting and maintenance of rectifiers
- Accountable for ensuring half-cells are calibrated in accordance with procedures
- Accountable for ensuring inspection of bridge (exposed) crossings in accordance with procedures
- Accountable for review of corrosion control designs for new construction or other / special projects
Business Acumen:
- Monitors corrosion control records to ensure compliance
- Seeks out information sources and reviews available information to identify additional reads / surveys to be performed (i.e. foreign line crossings, casings)
- Identifies and works with others as necessary to implement process improvements
- Measures and monitors performance (i.e. productivity and QA)
- Trends and analyzes corrosion control data
Engagement:
- Provides support for pipeline replacement prioritization
- Provides relevant support for engineering / construction projects
- Provides corrosion control-related support to Integrity Management Departments when determining appropriate Accelerated Actions and Preventive & Mitigative measures.
- Provides support in evaluating new corrosion control technology as well as corresponding processes and procedures for use.
- Responsible for coaching and developing employees within span of control.
- Responsible for collaborating and building effective relationships with various stakeholder groups.
- Responsible for establishing goals and objectives for the department to ensure compliance activities are met and to drive continual improvement.
Driving Results:
- Responsible for ensuring payment for electric (rectifiers) and remote monitoring
- Generates reports as needed
- Tests application upgrades
- Implements accelerated actions (DIMP) & additional Preventive and Mitigative measures (TRIMP) as identified by others
- Verifies OQ, safety, and training compliance for staff and applicable contractors
- Directs the work of Corrosion Technicians to ensure efficient, compliant completion
- Ensures that compliance records are accurately entered into the appropriate system of record in a timely fashion
- Participates as needed in regulatory audits to ensure success
- Completes work for respective area within budgetary constraints. Provides timely, thorough, and accurate variance explanations as necessary.
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
- Valid drivers license
- NACE CP2 (Cathodic Protection Technician)
- Associate’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or equivalent electrical training
OR
- NACE CP1 (Cathodic Protection Tester)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other Technical Discipline
Preferred:
- NACE CP3 (Cathodic Protection Technologist)
- BS Electrical Engineering or other Engineering DisciplineRelated Work Experience:
Required:
- 7-10 years experience in cathodic protection and corrosion control
- 5-7 years pipeline experience
Preferred:
- 2-3 years supervisory experienceSpecific Skills & Knowledge:
