The Medical Lab Tech is responsible for collecting, processing, and performing testing of patient specimens.
$26.98/hr minimum - $40.47/hr maximum (range increases based on education, experience and certifications)
Responsibilities
Safety
· Manages processes effectively in regard to employee/patient safety.
· Maintains a clean and safe work area at all times.
Record Keeping
· Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required.
· Participates in personal and departmental goal setting through the use of Goal Post.
· Maintains the privacy and confidentiality of all patient information used in the performance of the job.
Process Improvement
· Promotes a culture of process improvement by participating in unit/department based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
· Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams as needed.
· Attends departmental and other meetings as necessary.
Role Specific Responsibilities
· Supports and communicates Laboratory initiatives and philosophies.
· Collects, Processes and Receives specimens (including blood, urine, fecal, body fluid) to be analyzed in all departments of the clinical laboratory (listed above). Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens of analysis of all age ranges.
· Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of personnel, equipment, cost and establishment of reference intervals; writes and revises technical procedures.
· Performs complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
· Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
· Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity, and specific factors that influence test results.
· Reviews all instrument indicators and temperature monitors for laboratory departments
· Responsible for maintaining self-competency in laboratory skills.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree (or Associates Degree for grandfathered personnel)
· CLS or MT (ASCP) or equivalent
· New MT Graduate must pass certification exam within 6 months of employment start date
· Completes 12 units of CEU (Continuing Education Units) annually
· COVID vaccinations
