Overview
The Storage Geologist is responsible for, under direct supervision, providing support in the leading, coordinating, and performing of analysis, planning, design, construction, alterations, and/or maintenance of the Gas Storage Facilities. The ideal candidate possesses basic technical knowledge related to geology and petroleum geology.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Monitor, test, and enhance storage field integrity by developing well testing programs and schedules
- Work alongside logging contractors to conduct casing and tubing integrity tests
- Investigate storage well and downhole problems and design workover plans
- Maintain accurate records of casing and tubing tests and results
- Monitor well and field performance, interpret analysis, and provide recommendations for enhancements
- Support the design and direct stimulation procedures for wells and downhole treating programs for the storage reservoir
- Track storage inventory discrepancies and control migration of inventory
- Monitor drilling intents and production data in and around storage fields to prevent unauthorized production
- Provide reservoir and geological maps, studies, and designs to evaluate prospects and expansions · Verify that work products conform to applicable codes, standards, specifications, and requirements
- Plan, justify, and budget for storage field activities, capital projects, and maintenance projects
- Develop contacts, relationships, and monitor oil producers and landowners
- Work with state and federal regulatory groups on storage field permitting, regulatory compliance matters
- Integrate Guiding Principles, Vision, Mission, and Strategies into business and operating goals, daily business practices, relationships
- Establish strong peer relationships to optimize collaboration with others across the company
- Improve the organization by championing innovation and implementing best practices
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in geology Entry-level experience in storage field geological evaluation, operations, maintenance, and/or technical support
- Working technical knowledge of storage field design and evaluation, storage well testing, and workover equipment
- Basic knowledge and understanding of storage field operating requirements, regulations, company policies and procedures
- Basic skills in project coordination
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn technical skills in related fields
- Ability to work both independently and in collaborative environments
Preferred:
- Professional Geologist license
- Knowledge of natural gas transmission regulations (49CFR 192, OSHA, etc.)
Other requirements:
- Ability to work overtime
- Ability to work in differing office conditions (e.g., open office, outside)
- Ability to work and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment while remaining positive
- Ability to travel up to 25% on average by car and/or plane
