Overview

This position is responsible for providing the regulatory compliance, technical, and training support necessary to create and maintain a safe and compliant work environment.  Employee will work independently most of the time and must be capable and willing to function in a lead capacity.  May also be required to supervise the work of other personnel on assigned safety related projects.  Will handle a diverse range of complex assignments requiring a combination of experience, innovation and good judgment.  May be required to participate in new or unfamiliar areas of the job family. This position may lead the Operator Qualification (OQ) effort in the assigned Work Locations including, but not limited to, training evaluators, administrators, and Operations Team Leads as well as functioning as the OQ Administrative liaison between Southern Star and the selected 3rd party OQ administrator.

 

This position may lead Construction Safety effort in the assigned Work Region and may be responsible for projects across the Southern Star system. In addition, but not limited to: training inspectors, company personnel, as well as functioning as the Safety Liaison between Southern Star and 3rd party contractors/inspectors, along with oversight of internal projects.   Will be required to plan, conduct, assist and/or lead work tasks requiring independent evaluation and decisions and must assume responsibility for overall project success.

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

 

The duties and responsibilities assigned to the positions in this job family are similar at each level but progressive in the scope and depth of expected performance.

 

At this level the person in this position will be working independently the majority of the time and must be capable and willing to take a lead role with other personnel and projects.  This person must handle a diverse range of complex assignments, in familiar and unfamiliar territory, requiring a combination of experience, innovation and good judgment to accomplish the following responsibilities.   The person in this position must assume responsibility for the success of all assigned work to include the following:

 

  • Schedule, develop, procure and/or conduct required safety/OQ training
  • Conduct and document facility safety reviews
  • Ensure compliance with contractor prequalification program
  • Assist with contractor pre-project safety planning
  • Provide onsite safety expertise and oversight
  • Conduct and document construction site safety reviews
  • Prepare various reports
  • Lead safety committee processes
  • Lead/participate in site safety meetings
  • Assist with resolution of OSHA safety issues
  • Review/revise company safety procedures
  • Research, interpret and communicate OSHA safety regulation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations,  DOT driver regulations, Company procedures or other regulations as required
  • Conduct or assist with investigation of work-related accidents
  • Plan and complete projects
  • Identify and procure safety related material, equipment and supplies 
  • Assist with departmental budget preparation, reconciliation, identifying variances, and re-forecasting as assigned
  • Identify team and individual goals and prepare individual performance plan annually
  • Experience with computer information systems and Microsoft® applications (Excel®, Word®, PowerPoint®, Outlook®) advanced level.

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related safety/OQ experience relevant experience.  
  • Knowledge of 49 CFR Part 190, 191, and 192.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
