SUMMARY:
The Security Sergeant is the third in command position of management within the Security Department. The Sergeant assists in providing day-to-day coordination of department operations, to ensure that employees adequately perform their daily duties in order to create a safe and secure environment at Tift Regional Medical Center and all other campuses. Under the general direction of the Security Director and/or Senior Lieutenant, the Sergeant helps ensure that the diverse organization will provide Security functions which are fundamental to both the conduct of the department operations and the achievement of the hospitals operational objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to train others in how to perform individual duties during a disaster, tornado, bomb threat, infant abduction situation and/or hostage situation.
- Assists Captain in ensuing work meets hospital/governmental and regulatory agency standards.
- Issues corrective instructions and conducts follow-up inspections to ensure compliance.
- Recommends to Captain of Security, personnel action, inter-intradepartmental transfer, promotions, training, merit review and disciplinary actions, etc.
- Uses reasonable diligence to detect noncompliance with applicable policies and legal requirements within his/her department.
- Assists Captain in planning, organizing, training, directing, and controlling work flow of Security Personnel.
- Tours assigned hospital areas to ensure all instructions and safety rules are followed.
- Assists Captain in preparing work schedules to provide adequate coverage at all times.
- Assists Captain in changing schedules and reassigning personnel in response to work load, demands or staffing shortages.
- Assists Captain in coordinating daily operation of Security Department, including record keeping, completing payroll sheets, typing memos, making policy updates, answering telephones, and all other duties for department.
- Tours assigned hospital areas to ensure all instructions and safety rules are followed.
- Ensures that security equipment is maintained in safe, clean and proper operating conditions, reporting needed repairs to maintenance or sending equipment out for repairs.
- Assesses new security techniques and equipment, makes recommendations of review to Supervisor.
- Inspects and evaluates condition of assigned areas of hospital.
- Makes recommendations as to improving safety and security.
- Provides input into development of departmental policies, procedures, and budgets and assists in administering same.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
- Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
- Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
- Attends all mandatory education programs.
- Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
- Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
- Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
- Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
- Manages resources effectively.
- Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
- Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
EDUCATION:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
- GED
OTHER INFORMATION:
Two years of past supervisor experience or 3 years of experience in Security or related field, required.
