What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Engineer - Sr. Research Engineer - Spacecraft RF position at Southwest Research Institute?
Who We Are:
A multidisciplinary team of engineers, program managers, and technicians to develop spaceflight missions, spacecraft, spacecraft avionics systems, spacecraft payloads, and lighter than air systems.
Objectives of this Role:
- Lead Spacecraft RF Communications subsystem efforts.
- Design, development, and implement RF communication solutions that meet project requirements.
- Oversee RF component vendors.
- Support integration and testing of communication subsystem as well as launch and commissioning support.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Act as subject matter expert of Communication subsystem for proposals and projects.
- Identify and work with vendors of RF components to meet small satellite projects.
- Perform dynamic and static link analysis to ground stations or other spacecraft to show compliance with margin requirements.
- Identify RF test components and support RF ground support equipment design and assembly.
- Support development of Communication Subsystem test procedures.
Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelors with a 3.00 GPA in Electrical Engineering with Focus on RF Systems, specifically X, S, and Ka Bands
- Shift work required.
- 5 years: RF and digital signal processing design and analysis engineer for aerospace systems
- Experience with performing detailed space-to-ground link analyses
- Experience with communication coverage analyses eg AGI STK Communication and Coverage
- RF test engineer for aerospace systems, including software-defined radios
- Experience with modulation and encoding algorithms, as applied in software/firmware
- Experience specifying patch antennas for a variety of bands
- Experience operating RF test equipment such as Safran groups Cortex command and control modem
- A valid/clear driver's license is required
