PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
New Futures is a program of Southwest Youth and Family Services and partners with families in their communities and with educators to ensure that children succeed in school and in life. Our integrated, culturally relevant programs build skills, foster connectedness, and promote strengths. NEW FUTURES AT CORONADO SPRINGS APARTMENTS:
The New Futures program at Coronado was established in the summer of 2019, as our newest New Futures site. We are currently not yet offering the traditional out-of-school-time programming. We have started to offer, during the pandemic, some virtual programing for young people, GOKiC (Geeking Out Kids of Color), RAR (Raising a Reader) for children 0-5 years-old and their caregivers, adult and family classes and workshops (cooking and gardening) in partnership with other organizations in the community. The community has a great demand for assistance connecting to resources and basic needs. We are currently a team of two: a Resident services specialist and a site manager. We hope to expand as resources become available.
About Coronado and the community: Coronado Springs provides 332 apartment homes affordable to families earning between 50% and 60% of the Area Median Income. Originally built in 1966, the property comprises 183 units in a 9-story tower and 149 units in one-story cottages. BRIDGE Housing acquired Coronado Springs in July 2016.
