Silo Cleaning Technician

JOB SUMMARY

As a silo technician at Specialty Silo Services, you will help to safely dislodge built-up material from inside industrial silos using specialized hydraulic equipment that is lowered into the vessel from the outside. There is physical labor involved, but the majority of a typical cleaning job involves steering our BinWhip device around inside the silo using hydraulic controls. Related duties may include helping demonstrate equipment to potential customers, installing equipment at customer facilities, and general maintenance tasks.

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS include the following.

DUTIES:

• Maintain a safe work environment at all times by understanding and applying relevant safety standards
• Protect your coworkers and other individuals from harm, along with property and equipment
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with each coworker and customer you interact with
• Learn new technical skills and processes and apply this knowledge toward solving mechanical issues and bulk flow challenges
• Safely and efficiently set up and operate a wide variety of machines and equipment
• Work effectively with a partner or team in a self-directed work environment
• Properly maintain, repair, and restock equipment, parts, and supplies as needed
• Maintain clean and orderly job sites, work areas, vehicles, and trailers
• Reliably maintain work, travel, DOT, and other records and paperwork on a continuous basis
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and ability to be insured
• Ability and willingness to travel, possibly for extended periods of time, up to 3 weeks
• Ability to work in a drug and alcohol -free workplace
• Ability to pass an ATF background check (the use of some of our equipment is regulated by the ATF)
• Ability to lift, transport, and manipulate heavy equipment and work safely at heights
• Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and drive a commercial motor vehicle (trucks towing equipment trailers)
• Mechanical experience working with tools and machinery preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time, stoop, reach, carry, walk, sit, lie down, pull/push with hands, talk and hear, and remain alert and aware for the duration of their shift (up to 12 hours).
• The employee must regularly lift/move items up to 75 pounds.
• There is some exposure to physical risk, and appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn depending on the hazards present.

REQUIREMENTS

• Ability and willingness to travel, for extended periods of time, including overnight stays.
• Ability to work in a drug and alcohol -free workplace
• Ability to pass an ATF background check (the use of some of our equipment is regulated by the ATF)
• Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and drive a commercial motor vehicle
• Ability to climb ladders, tolerate confined spaces and heights, bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability and willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
• Willingness and ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, respirators, safety shoes, safety glasses, and hard hats.
• Ability to pass a company required physical examination.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical
• Availability to work overtime hours.
