As the Director, Content Marketing, you will be responsible for Splunk’s thought leadership, customer storytelling, campaign, and web content globally, including leading content strategy, editorial direction, production, execution, and measurement. Reporting to the Senior Director, Content and Messaging, you will collaborate closely with our product marketing, demand generation, executive customer experience, communications and field marketing teams, translating technical material into compelling and differentiated stories that are easy for our key audiences to consume and prompts them to take action. And you will partner closely with the Corporate Comms and Brand teams as we bring our story to external stakeholders and influencers.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, hire and grow a team of content marketers, retaining our reputation and passion for award winning content and campaigns
- Define the content strategy and plan – working closely with Campaigns, Product Marketing and others – that aligns to the complete customer journey and our corporate positioning
- Collaborate with Messaging, Product Marketing, and Enablement to directly connect content into our go-to-market programs and enhance sales processes
- Evolve our thought leadership program, further establishing our leadership in security and observability, while building our reputation in support of our new purpose and positioning
- Establish goals and metrics to measure the quality of content, audience growth, engagement, and content reach and extensively analyze problems to seek understanding of the underlying issues in alignment with overarching business strategy
- Build innovative assets that influence senior decision-makers, especially CISOs, CIOs, and CTOs
- Support the team to write, edit, produce, publish, and promote industry-leading content including white papers, eBooks, customer stories, campaign emails, SEO content, and blogs
- Stay up to date on the emerging trends and needs within the Security and Observability market and CISO/CxO personas and be responsive in adjusting content strategies to continue to stand out and differentiate Splunk
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, business, marketing, or communications or equivalent related work experience
- 10 years in content marketing, communications, corporate marketing, publishing, or product marketing
- Experience building content strategy that aligns to the customer journey, with deep understanding of the marketing that supports awareness, engagement, demand generation, and adoption
- A compelling storyteller who has the natural ability to take complex technical concepts and communicate them to our target audiences
- Champions a growth mindset with out-of-the-box thinking and a “what got us here may not get us there” approach
- Experience marketing to CISOs, CIOs or CTOs is preferred
- Ability to collaborate with and influence internal and external stakeholders while building powerful stories of the highest quality in multiple formats (written, video, blogs)
- Proven results and experience scaling, developing, and managing teams of people and helping to build culture in a fast-paced environment, with SaaS experience preferred
- Experience conducting research and interpreting data, and transforming those findings into intriguing, insightful content
- Analytical expertise and the ability to use performance metrics to optimize content strategy and make data-driven decisions

Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out below, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.

Base Pay Range
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area
Base Pay Range: $190,400.00 - 261,800.00 per year
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts
Base Pay Range: $172,800.00 - 237,600.00 per year
All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.
Base Pay Range: $156,800.00 - 215,600.00 per year
