A little about us. Splunk is the key to enterprise resilience for the 11,000 organizations that use our Unified Security and Observability Platform. We regularly appear on a lot of “Best Places to Work” lists and we think it’s because we encourage our Splunkers to bring their whole, authentic selves. So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you. Because when you feel free to be you, it makes it a lot easier for us to be us.

As the Director, Content Marketing, you will be responsible for Splunk’s thought leadership, customer storytelling, campaign, and web content globally, including leading content strategy, editorial direction, production, execution, and measurement. Reporting to the Senior Director, Content and Messaging, you will collaborate closely with our product marketing, demand generation, executive customer experience, communications and field marketing teams, translating technical material into compelling and differentiated stories that are easy for our key audiences to consume and prompts them to take action. And you will partner closely with the Corporate Comms and Brand teams as we bring our story to external stakeholders and influencers.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, hire and grow a team of content marketers, retaining our reputation and passion for award winning content and campaigns
  • Define the content strategy and plan – working closely with Campaigns, Product Marketing and others – that aligns to the complete customer journey and our corporate positioning
  • Collaborate with Messaging, Product Marketing, and Enablement to directly connect content into our go-to-market programs and enhance sales processes
  • Evolve our thought leadership program, further establishing our leadership in security and observability, while building our reputation in support of our new purpose and positioning
  • Establish goals and metrics to measure the quality of content, audience growth, engagement, and content reach and extensively analyze problems to seek understanding of the underlying issues in alignment with overarching business strategy
  • Build innovative assets that influence senior decision-makers, especially CISOs, CIOs, and CTOs
  • Support the team to write, edit, produce, publish, and promote industry-leading content including white papers, eBooks, customer stories, campaign emails, SEO content, and blogs
  • Stay up to date on the emerging trends and needs within the Security and Observability market and CISO/CxO personas and be responsive in adjusting content strategies to continue to stand out and differentiate Splunk

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, business, marketing, or communications or equivalent related work experience
  • 10 years in content marketing, communications, corporate marketing, publishing, or product marketing
  • Experience building content strategy that aligns to the customer journey, with deep understanding of the marketing that supports awareness, engagement, demand generation, and adoption
  • A compelling storyteller who has the natural ability to take complex technical concepts and communicate them to our target audiences
  • Champions a growth mindset with out-of-the-box thinking and a “what got us here may not get us there” approach
  • Experience marketing to CISOs, CIOs or CTOs is preferred
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence internal and external stakeholders while building powerful stories of the highest quality in multiple formats (written, video, blogs)
  • Proven results and experience scaling, developing, and managing teams of people and helping to build culture in a fast-paced environment, with SaaS experience preferred
  • Experience conducting research and interpreting data, and transforming those findings into intriguing, insightful content
  • Analytical expertise and the ability to use performance metrics to optimize content strategy and make data-driven decisions
