Performs technical accounting work in assigned accounting programs and funds.
Participates in the work of lower level accounting positions. Journalizes to special, sub or general ledgers and reconciling ledgers.
Balances, verifies, audits and reconciles accounts to computer generated reports.
Collects accounting statistical data for reporting purposes and assists in preparing varied financial reports.
May prepare or assist in the preparation of vouchers for payment of bills.
Maintains computerized spreadsheet programs on personal computers.
Maintains utility, payroll, fund and grant accounts; maintains central billing, physical inventory, fixed asset, building rental and investment accounts.
Assists in monitoring computerized accounting programs.
Assists in identifying, evaluating and resolving problems occurring in the day-to-day operation of the accounting system.
May operate cash register to receipt payments. Process NSF checks returned by the bank.
Performs other related duties as required.
WHEN ASSIGNED TO TRANSFER STATION (IN ADDITION TO THE DUTIES LISTED ABOVE):
Assesses, collects and records cash, check and credit card transactions in accordance with established rate schedule; balances and reconciles daily collections.
Operates a computerized automated scale system to obtain and electronically record the weight and/or volume of all materials delivered to transfer stations.
Conducts visual inspection of incoming vehicles to determine acceptability of load or appropriate location of load; routes incoming and departing vehicles to and from appropriate disposal and recycling areas.
Accounts for all daily transactions; maintains records of special accounts, special waste permits and/or temporary accounts; prepares appropriate deposit and no-charge transaction documents.
Provides information to customers by telephone or in person about the rules, regulations and use of Spokane County Transfer Station facilities, including disposal and recycling fees, policies, procedures and options.
Troubleshoots, or obtains support to help troubleshoot, scale automation, scales, cash register and other electronic/automated communication and operating systems; uses alternate operating procedures in the event of a system failure.
Performs other related duties as required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent . One (1) year of accounting related work experience or successful completion (C grade or better) of 8 semester hours or equivalent of accounting classes from an accredited institution of higher education.
NOTE: Certain positions may be required to be bondable.
ADDITIONAL TRANSFER STATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires cashiering or banking experience, including data entry tasks and working with the public. Must possess a valid driver's license and insurance at the time of hire and maintain same throughout employment. Must successfully pass appropriate background check. Required to be bondable.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Transfer Station assignments are located at a County landfill site. Duties are performed in a confined, enclosed workstation without freedom to move about throughout the day. Employees may be indirectly exposed to a variety of weather conditions, refuse odors, and vehicle fumes, noise and vibration. Work schedule will rotate between landfill locations, to include working on weekends.
Salary : $29,377 - $39,641
