JOB TITLE: Building Automation Technician


REPORTS TO: Lead Energy Technician


WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt


PAY GRADE: AUX 9

 


PRIMARY PURPOSE:


The Building Automation Technician plays an essential role in the success of the SISD Energy Department. The primary role will be to maintain the integrity of the building automation system equipment. The building technician will take direction from the Lead Energy Technician and is responsible for the completion of work orders and preventative maintenance of BAS equipment.


The building automation technician will conduct routine building automation maintenance,
troubleshoot complex automation, and maintain detailed records.  All employees of Spring ISD are expected to be service-oriented, relationship-centered and outcome-driven. They are required to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, champion the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:


Required:

 

  • High School Graduate/GED from an accredited institution
  • Understanding of HVAC and/or building automation systems
  • Experience in building automation technician, HVAC, and/or energy management
  • Knowledge of HVAC/BAS-related tools for instrumentation
  • Experience in customer service
  • Knowledge of blueprints, plans, design specifications, diagrams, schematics, manufacturing manuals, flow charts, and control sequences
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Report to the Lead Energy Technician on findings and building automation performance
  • Dedicated to providing outstanding service
  • Maintain current systems through a preventative maintenance program
  • Perform routine maintenance by restoring and repairing equipment and systems
  • Basic troubleshooting of terminal units and fan coils
  • Sequence checks on boxes, fan coils, and AHU
  • Troubleshooting automation control systems pertaining to air distribution, air handlers,
  • valves, variable speed equipment, exhaust systems, lighting, chill water, and boiler
  • systems
  • Understand HVAC and Electrical
  • Observe and communicate methods to reduce district operational costs
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned


WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS:


Work requires sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential tasks, including operating and using all tools, equipment and vehicles; lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time; climbing and working from ladders up to 25 feet high. Work is performed both inside and outside school district building and facilities, and often requires working unusual hours and may be designated for 24 hour on-call. Employee is exposed to a wide range of climatic conditions, dust, flammable or toxic chemicals, and loud noises. Employee is also exposed to potential electrical shock and other physical hazards when working on electronic components and systems, operating tools and equipment, and working in high or cramped spaces. Work requires vision necessary to determine color differences. Employee is required to wear and use safety clothing and equipment and to comply with safety policies and procedures. Must be able to handle stressful situations as necessary.
