WORK SCHEDULE: Approximately 4-10 hours per week TBD by Administrator; August 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Career Readiness Coordinator (CRC) promotes the District’s mission of creating lifelong learners by leading initiatives to leverage relationships within the local and national community to ensure that all secondary school students, including those with alternative educational needs, have the means, opportunity and preparation to attend college or enter the workplace. The CRC is responsible for overseeing and guiding effective development, coordination and management of the district’s College and Career Readiness, Work-Based Learning Program in his/her current high school. This position serves high school Juniors and Seniors and is in addition to the individual’s regular work role and responsibilities and will require after-school hours.
DUTIES:
Essential Role and Responsibilities
- Work under the direction and in collaboration with the Student Internship & Pathways Administrator
- Be point person in current high school for all Career Readiness, Work-Based Learning programs
- Actively promote the Career Readiness, Work-Based Learning program in current high school
- Supervise own internship program inside current high school
- Meet or exceed high school internship metrics, as established by the Student Internship & Pathways Program, and above and beyond any already established school goals
- Conduct Career Readiness counseling sessions and workshops for students with priority for Juniors and Seniors, above and beyond any already established school curriculum
- Recruit and/or assist the Student Internship & Pathways Administrator with recruiting a minimum of career-related employers to participate in the Work-Based Learning, Internship & Pathways Programs
- Recruit and prepare Juniors and Seniors to participate in internships
- Match Juniors and Seniors with appropriate internship and/or employment opportunities
- Develop and maintain relationships with prospective internship employers
- Conduct youth workplace visits to monitor progress and collaborate with employers to ensure student safety and facilitate WBLP
- Conduct employer and position assessments, process CORI check for supervisors and modify MOU’s for review and approval
- Collaborate with school resources to provide and track workplace readiness curriculum and activities to Juniors and Seniors prior to their internship or other workplace experiences
- Develop Career Development/Connecting Activities Plan for school, draft and submit budget plans and collaborate with internal school stakeholders to align with specific industries and courses
- Engage and facilitate employers and professionals in the Career Development Education/Connecting Activities at respective school
- Support the development of student Career Peers Program / Leadership Advisory Council
Administrative Responsibilities
- Use the MA Work-Based Learning Plan to track student internships and other workplace experiences and connecting activities
- Input MA Work-Based Learning Plans into state on-line database in a timely manner
- Collaborate with Internship & Pathways Administrator and other Career Readiness Coordinators
- Attend an orientation session and professional development
- Attend monthly Career Readiness Coordinator team meetings, after school, beginning Sept and scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of each month (subject to change)
- Prepare and participate in one-on-one meetings with the Internship & Pathways Administrator
- Complete Career Readiness Coordinator’s yearly goals and self-evaluation process
- Submit bi-weekly activities and hours log each month on time, to comply with fiscal and programmatic policies
- Submit quarterly workplace readiness learning and career activities highlights for current high school
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently employed as a MA licensed teacher or counselor in a Springfield Public Schools high schools; Central High School, High School of Commerce, Springfield High School of Science and Technology, Springfield Renaissance School, Putman Vocational-Technical High School, Duggan Academy, Springfield Conservatory of the Arts, Springfield High School, Springfield Public Day High School.
- Demonstrated experience with School-to-Career or other College and Career Readiness activities at the high school level
- Be able to work up to 4-10 hrs on workforce preparedness, every week, above and beyond current regular work hours. Maximum hours to be determined based on internship placement goals.
- Experience developing internships for youth preferred
