Role and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of a Retail Store Manager is to ensure that the day to day operation of the store is completed within the company policies and procedures which include the following but not limited to:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and prepares work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties.
- Perform specific tasks as assigned by the Operations Managers.
- Insure that all customers are acknowledged and given prompt courteous service.
- Stay familiar with the Company policies and procedures and assures that all store employees are informed and trained in these policies and procedures.
- Contact Operations Manager to inform him/her of any inventory discrepancies, both inside merchandise and fuel inventory.
- Contact Operations Manager to inform him/her of any cash discrepancies
- Operate store within company budgeted hours of operation.
- Complete daily competitive gas surveys.
- Performs work of subordinates as needed.
- Call in weekend deposit figures.
- Call in daily gas inventories to ensure that store has fuel products on hand at all times.
BOOKKEEPING
- Prepare and post daily paperwork in store computer.
- Make daily deposit according to policy.
- Properly post and fax all hours worked by store employees every Monday morning.
- Assure proper sale for money orders and lottery tickets daily.
- Insures the correct posting of all merchandise received in store on daily basis.
- Insures proper accounting for all credit cards, lottery, money orders, food stamps and other miscellaneous transactions.
- Accurately post markups and markdowns, store use of merchandise and damaged merchandise.
PERSONNEL
- Recruitment, hiring and completion of all paperwork for new employees.
- Train store personnel in all aspects of their job responsibilities.
- Scheduling of all personnel to cover all operating hours of the store.
- Manage payroll hours within set allowances.
- Manage all employees to insure maximum performance in Customer Service.
- Follow correct procedures in documentation of employees job performance (written warnings, performance reviews, terminations, etc.).
- Insure compliance of employees with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices.
INVENTORY/CASH CONTROL
- Being sure that all personnel implement proper security measures.
- Making daily deposits according to company policy.
- Report all necessary information to the Operation Manager, on time and as needed.
- Completion of all necessary daily information.
- Make sure company policies are followed in regards to inventory control (checking in vendors).
- Performing daily, weekly or monthly inventory audits on all categories and cash audits on all clerks.
STORE SECURITY
- Trains all employees on the proper amount of cash in the register and the control of the safe fund.
- Performing quarterly alcohol compliance checks according to company policy.
- Trains all employees on correct procedure in the event the store is robbed.
- Insure that all employees use safety procedures when cleaning the store or equipment to reduce customer and employee injuries.
- Report all accidents immediately to District Manager and Director of Human Resources.
- Post emergency numbers and instructs employee on proper procedure to follow in different emergency situations. (i.e.: robbery, gas spills, customer/employee injury, and property damage).
MERCHANDISING
- Merchandising and maintaining proper inventory levels of all merchandise carried in store.
- Insures shelf price and price sticker are the same.
- Keeps coolers, drink boxes, store shelves and displays fully stocked and fronted at all times.
- Insure that all equipment is cleaned and operating at all times.
- Readies high margin products such as coffee, fountain drinks, etc. as directed by Operations Department.
- Uses correct pricing on all merchandise in store as directed by the Operations Department.
- Insures that employees use suggestive selling to customers to increase store profit
MAINTENANCE
- Insures that the store, interior and exterior, is clean and maintained at all times.
- Insures that all store equipment is operating at all times.
- Insures that all gas equipment is operating at all times.
- Contacts Operation Managers in the event of equipment failure.
