POSITION: Steel Inventory Specialist
LOCATION: Blackfoot, Idaho
JOB SUMMARY:
The Steel Inventory Specialist is responsible for controlling, managing, and monitoring the Fabrication department’s inventory needs, steel quality, material specifications, and technical requirements. The requires an individual who can understand material and metal specifications, be able to assure incoming steel meets material and quality specifications, and that all Mill Test Reports (MTRs) match quality specifications. This position will be the primary technical contact who communicates with the steel vendors in determining any material disposition or variance, while working closely with Engineering and Purchasing. Additionally, this Specialist must understand or be capable of understanding inventory and inventory flow, production processes, and can communicate effectively with various departments and be able to solve inventory problems and investigate ways to improve inventory turnover which are vital to this role. This position will develop and utilize inventory practices to ensure the metal inventory in the Fabrication department is accurate and that inventory cycle counts and material moves are consistently and properly made. This person will also accurately monitor current needs and predict future needs and purchases for the department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Be the Fabrication production department’s representative (technical/inventory) to control and oversee all incoming steel to ensure it meets material and quality specifications (grades, hardness, type etc.) – ensure accurate order quantities are delivered, all revisions and/or deviations are dispositioned and communicated with the vendors, Purchasing, Engineering, and Production;
- Work with Purchasing to qualify the best steel providers, ensure inventory levels to best meet production needs, develop safety stocks, submit purchase orders, coordinate receipts and purchases, and create inventory turnover goals;
- Be the Fabrication department’s technical contact with Engineering, Purchasing, and vendors;
- Aid Production Control in the issuing of raw material to jobs;
- Drive understanding, implementation, and utilization of Factory Track system;
- Develop internal processes to ensure inventory quality is maintained (conditions, storage, movement, etc.);
- Reconcile material that is received into inventory (bill of lading etc. received correctly);
- Establish routine cycle count processes resulting in accurate inventory counts; maintain a high quality standard of accurate inventory;
- Keep an accurate account and record of inventory turnover;
- Lead the effort to ensure that MRP system is correctly utilizing floor stocks to drive material purchases;
- Provide weekly status reports using charts and graphs that review and evaluate production progress, work-in-process, raw material inventory, and finished good demand;
- Develop processes to trace raw materials to whole goods;
- Conduct frequent spot/partial audits - facilitate the annual count of physical inventory.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of entry level engineer / technical and /or equivalent vocational degree required (A.S, B.S, Certificate – equivalent OTJ experience considered);
- Ability to use and read measuring devices, prints, specifications etc.;
- Excellent communication skills with workers, purchasing department, and outside vendors – ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form;
- Ability to pay close attention to details;
- Possess strong organizational skills – ability to work with minimum supervision;
- Ability to develop professional relationships with outside vendors and internal departments;
- Demonstrate ability to think creatively and strategically– perform accurate math calculations;
- Comfortable analyzing large datasets with many types of materials in many locations;
- Understanding and experience using computers (Microsoft Suite, Crystal Reports, SQL, Syteline, VBA);
- Experience with ERP, MRP, and/or Database software a plus or ability to learn;
- Ability to set goals and prioritize multiple tasks in fast paced manufacturing facility;
- Prior inventory management and inventory control procedure experience.

- Office equipment such as computers, printers, servers, telephones, etc.;
- Material handling equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, overhead crane, etc.;
- Fabrication equipment such as Iron Worker, band saw, drill press, hydraulic press, shear, press brake, laser cutter, etc.;
- Other machines and equipment specific to the department.

TYPICAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. May have temperature changes due to working inside a shop. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dust mists, gases or poor ventilation. There is air and or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids. Worker may be exposed to outside conditions and extreme temperatures.
